Lots of missing TOTP material there! Seemingly from pretty good quality home videos which haven't surfaced before, so far as i'm aware.

The website accompanying the clips is extremely interesting, though it looks like whoever it is won't part with the clips without a financial incentive...

Hmmm it looks like either the people behind the PVL have decided to find another way of raising finance for the clips it holds or someone stumped up the 20k to buy the archive & is now making it available for a price. Either way good on them, just watching that compilation was like stepping back in time & it means theres a good chance of these episodes now being seen & judging by the quality of some of the 1973 footage just in time. A lot of that material listed on the website was on the PVL lists & i'm guessing some of the other clips have turned up on the end of tapes where just the main episodes recorded were listed. Either way its a treasure trove of glam era pops which was thought to be long gone & a valuable addition to a vastly depleted archive of 73/74 shows.

The Geordie and Nazareth footage is great, Ballroom blitz - wow Always liked the Lulu version of "The man who" (Bowies best of course)
We need to recover these gems (and restore) before they deteriorate any further!

Here we now have a clean version ( without the added website captions ) of the above posted compilation: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWqYb_82wxw&feature=plcp&context=C44209c3VDvjVQa1PpcFNgMl3weVo--84fmW4T5m1TB1GXbJ68MJY%3DKnow many will appreciate that here for completeness sake, also has a few different shots not seen in the previous compilation. Likewise loved seeing the Geordie and Nazareth footage. For me it was Cozy Powell's Hammer-Na Na Na, The Sweet- Ballroom Blitz, Wizzard- Angel Fingers,Marc Bolan-Teenage Dream, and the unseen Hollies- Long Cool Woman. Was realy neat to see the colour Prelude- After The Goldrush clip. That was neat seeing Kenny dart in and out of shot over Jimmy's shoulders. I still keep on wondering if I will ever see a cigar that size, now that would be the day !! I was also most interested to see the DLT-Queen-Seven Seas of Rhye clip in monochrome form. The clips from this I have seen posted online were in colour, the plot thickens. However quality did look better here I must say. If they could possibly merge the colour signal of the inferior quality recording with this crisp monochrome copy, a fairly good approximation in almost HD form might be achieved. Very similar to the work done on past and present Doctor Who releases in regards to colour recovery-restoration. I really hope as you do that Dick Clark did not purchase these, please let it not be so.... I also agree that these need to be preserved before any further neglect or deterioration can occur here. Honestly, most recordings looked quite good for their age, and with little to no dropout witnessed. I am really hoping the two SLADE performances are in good shape as well ( Squeeze Me and How Does It Feel)?? Agreed, Bowie's version has to be my top pick as well there, as far as that specific song goes. Just one opinion there of course there ( two I suppose here ). Cheers, Lance.

Hi Lance, the hollies clip near the end is The Day that Curly Billy shot down Crazy Sam McGee and not Long Cool Woman although they are very similar.

I just hope Kal or someone is looking into securing this material for posterity! The quality is pretty good and as there is so little TOTP material of that vintage in official existence, it's valuable. In a private collection, the quality will deteriorate and the footage will eventually be lost. So restoration (and preservation) is needed. On a personal level too, i'd really like to see all this material in it's entirety!
I hope something can be done soon. It would be nice to think that the person who owns the recordings cares enough about their continued existence and would want to see them preserved properly before it's too late...
