Other than TV stations which have been done to death, are there any other suggested areas one could inquire? Usual places - keep an eye out for film fairs, film collector clubs, car boot sales, junk shops, classified ads, etc. As always, don't mention Dr Who - be very general. If you should spot anything for sale, try not to betray your excitement at finding it. Be casual - "oh yeah, I used to watch that when I was a kid - go on then", and then once you've got it, keep it under your hat until it's been checked by Paul V or someone "in authority", so to speak.

When the film collector isn't looking, hit him over the head with a rock and run off with it.

When I spoke to a film collector last month I believe I used to term 'old BBC shows'. He had none.

I didn't get that far; he made it quite clear early on he only had home movie type footage, no 'production' programmes.

Hey mate, I admire your enthusiasm!! Good luck and all with this venture. Maybe us Aussies should pool our "resources" and let each other know about such fairs etc. In our prospective areas, as australia is a bloody big place!!! I live down on the border of NSW and Victoria and apart from the weekly "rotary market" theres bugger all to look through!!!

There's a film collector meeting that happens down here in Dunedin maybe twice a year (or it's the whole country twice a year in different centres) but you gotta pay to get in, and I have no extra cash for such a venture.
Twins do that to you.

If the group move their conventions around the country then it's likely Jon or Paul or Neil have already poked their nose in at some stage.

I would attend the film collecting club if local for the purpose of meeting some really nice people and make some friends with interest in collecting film and learning from them. If one went with that attitude, then you'll wont be disapointed and anything found would be an added bonus Also if youre a true friend to people they'll turn around and be a friend to you.

There is also the quarterly Australian Film Collectors Magazine 'Reel Deals'. I have subscribed to this for years. It's a great little read with pages of classified ads. I have picked up episodes of The Love Boat and The Mary Tyler Moore Show on 16mm quite cheaply from there. ;D About eight years ago or more I placed a two page ad, one page listing all the missing Hartnells and the other the missing Troughtons but no bites I'm afraid. I also placed an ad for general missing TV shows, again no bites. I have never seen in all my years of subscribing any BBC material for sale. However... They also run articles on films and projectors. I have suggested before that perhaps one of the RT could write an article for them around missing BBC/UK material as so much of it was shown in Australia. If they explained the circumstances why they were lost and how keen the BBC is to find them, in addition that the BBC just wish to borrow the film and there will be no legal issues with the collector holding the film, it may bring something out of the woodwork. I just think that something from the BBC would hold more credibility to a film collector than from a 'fan' like myself. Just a thought. If anyone wants to subscribe to Reel Deals I have posted the link below. www.reeldeals.com.au/
