I mentioned this in 'The Jean Genie' thread, but think I should start a new thread on this find. Last night at the BFI just before Bowie we were treated to this ultra rare Top Of The Pops performance of 'Years May Come, Years May Go'. Introduced by a snazzzy looking Tony Blackburn and in glorious colour it's a great performance that I didn't realise existed. I don't think it was 100% complete but pretty much most of it was there and I believe it might have been lifted from a documentary of some sorts. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi Mike, I was there last night as well. Talk about an eclectic bunch of clips shown during the evening. The programme was called "Making Rainbows" which used various BBC clips to highlight some of their productions. Other clips used wasn't mentioned. I know the song was a top ten hit for the Hermits but was it me or does it sound bland today and one of the worst songs they ever released. Of all the songs to use for a promotional tool from 1970, the Beeb chose this one.

Thanks Sal. Never heard of 'Making Rainbows', do you know what other footage is used? That Hermans Hermits song was pretty bland, like alot of their material but I still kinda liked it. Nice to see another old Top Of The Pops performance though.

Dick Fiddy only mentioned the name of the promotional show but didn't say what other clips were used.

HH bass player Karl Green posted this video of the TOTP performance on his Facebook page in July. Great footage that I've wanted to see for ages. After about 2.15 it just loops the previous footage for the rest of the song so presumably that first part is all that was broadcast in the promotional show mentioned above and that now survives? www.facebook.com/karlgreenofficial/videos/1599670556949251/

This was the version Bert Von Breda used for transmission on 192TV. Like much of the material he screens on his channel, a new audio soundtrack has been dubbed over the original and in Hermans case, the vision also looped to take in the entire song. The original has live vocal track and is incomplete, as featured on the BFI night mentioned at the start of the thread, and the 2013 KAL event "Cutting Room Floor" as organised by Mike Morton on KAL's behalf. It comes from "Making Rainbows" as mentioned. The original TOTP performance would have taken in the entire song.
