Hello All:
Longtime lurker here...reading this post made me think about the costs of colorizing MOE 1 and ways to raise the money. Somehow I'd think that fans might be willing and able to contribute to the colorzation, seeing that we're coming up on the 50th anniversary and it would be an opportunity to have this story fully colorized for the first time since the late 70's.
Of course I don't know the actual costs, so I am using a simplistic example, but basically, if colorizing episode 1 costs $100,000 and we could get 1,000 fans to contribute $100 to it we'd at least have the dollars. I know I personally would contribute to the project like that.
Again, I'm being overly simplistic, and I am sure there are legalities I am not thinking of, but theoretically would something like this be possible? I'm looking for those in the know to weigh in on this.
Fundraising websites like Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com) could potentially be used to raise the funds...I am curious thati f funds could be raised and were offered to support such a project, would they (or could they) be accepted?

I concur that I would love to own the entire run even if animated at this point. As for Ep 1 I really don't think we have to fundraise for colorization/colourisation it's already being worked on.....

i wonder how they are restoring ep 1 to colour? No-one ever said that it would be restored to colour. Judging by what happened with Invasion of the Dinosaurs 1, it will be in B/W. A lot of people assume things on here, and I have no idea why.

I'm sorry, but have you any proof of this (aside from someone saying that it's true)? Saying that all six episodes have been restored to colour is a very big statement to make, and one that most likely has very little basis in fact. The fact is that Mind of Evil 1, if recoloured, would need to be recoloured from scratch as no copies containing chroma dots are known to exist (and probably never did, as generally only one stored field telerecording was made of Pertwee episodes). Such a project would require a massive amount of money that the BBC simply currently cannot afford to dish out. Fan recolourisations are possible, but would take a ridiculously long period of time as every frame needs to be recoloured individually. Look at the facts, then look at your source, and then make your mind up about whether it's true. Sorry, but to me this sounds like a game of Chinese whispers, nothing more.
As John and Simon Ashby have pointed out, too many assumptions seem to be being made, based on nothing but one person saying that something is true. I could say that I've got 'The Tenth Planet' 4 in my hand right now, but that doesn't make it true (I wish I had...)

'Should be in colour' is very different to 'restored to colour' LOL! Be careful how you word things guys. But the point still stands - just because someone says it should be in colour on the DVD release, it doesn't neccesarily mean it will be - they may not have the budget. It's so frustrating that the potential for a high-quality recolourisation is possible, but out of reach because of cost... but let's keep hoping.

They won't leave ep 1 in b and w it would be so odd being the only pertwee ep in b and w I am sure they will find a way. Like west wing is a good colourisation company.
