Hello, Over the past few years I have been writing a blog devoted strictly to British television (with few variations) and I wanted to tell you about my most recent article. It's about missing episodes. Not a history of the subject or anything that can improve upon Wiped!, it is more of my fascination, research and almost finds from a US perspective. It's more of a personal story and hopefully one that some people might find interesting. from-the-archive.blogspot.com/The blog generally is me randomly picking a series and I write about what I watch each week but this week is all about Doctor Who. Take care, Greg

Rather surprised no one has commented on your post. Thank you for the info and posting here Greg. An excellent job in tracking down those ex TV station VT masters, had any of those transferred by chance as yet? Might have any episode titles for us there by chance? As did not see any listed on the photo captions? Just curious there is all.
Ahh yes, the ol Canadian TV station dad rumor. Have heard that one many a time before, now rather an old one, still good to see any publications there of course documenting this. I keep on thinking Seattle might be a worthy place for some UK TV material to have made its way down from Canada. As have seen one example of a BBC TV 16mm mute print of a mid 70's TV series from the head of the Doctor Who Fan Club in Seattle. Sadly, was an existing episode, but still goes to show these things are out there. Just a matter of asking the right people, and looking in the right places, and a bit of ol' fashioned luck of course.
Keep up the search, as I do as well. Never stopped. The more the merrier in the search for missing-lost TV material. Keep up the stellar work again here Greg!
Cheers, Lance.

Very good column. But maybe it's time for people to let things such as Paul Lee's article, and of course Mr DG be placed in Who history. I'm sure we've all got our hopes up over some "discovery" only to be crushed by the reality.

I hope the 50th celebration allows some opportunities to promote the search for missing eps as its been 7 yrs since DMP2 came back. I still think The Traitors and Space Pirates 4 are out there in the hands of a private collector.

Especially as the article made such an impression on me when I was younger, it was worth it for me to note it. I hope you stop back to the blog once in a while.

I was wondering this as well here:
Leighton: What makes you think here that Space Pirates: 4 exists in private hands? For the Traitors we know a print-copy was used by the Blue Peter production office if am recalling correctly here. This is a very old, and now threadbare prospect that has quite literally been picked to death..... However, this is new to me in regards to Space Pirates: 4.
Would be quite interested in hearing further there in regards.
Cheers, Lance

Well, 2 eps returned from Australia ended up in the hands of a film collector from Hampshire in the early 1980s. I am convinced Space Pirates 4 went the same way I did actually think that SP4 would be the surprise today at the BFI. However, I can say that ep 2 of Underwater menace is significantly better than ep 3 and perhaps fans will now look more favourably on this story.

But why Pirates: 4, rather than, ooh, well anything else..?

But why Pirates: 4, rather than, ooh, well anything else..? Probably because it was plucked from a junking at random, just like the two dalek episodes returned in 2004.

You misunderstand what I'm asking. I'm wondering why Leighton thinks that Space Pirates: 4 specifically ended up in the hands of a collector, rather than being bandsawed.

I am not going to make it a habit to bring up my blog. I promise but if you liked my article, I update the blog every week with more than just Doctor Who. If you subscribe to my Facebook From the Archive: British Television Blog page you will get updates about which series I am writing articles. www.facebook.com/pages/From-the-Archive-British-Television-Blog/272269192826670?sk=wallUnless it is something related to Doctor Who restoration or missing episodes, I won't update this thread again.
