I would think it's the cost of a computer colourisation that's the problem. After all the POD3, was computer colourised just before the colour recovery process had been developed, hence the combination of the two for the release. It's a shame though as had prices been more favourable, I would have thought most of the f/r pertwee might have been done the same as POD. It certainly restored POD:3 to almost original form.

I have a recollection to the effect that POTD3 was coloured when the £-$ exchange rate was very favourable. However, with the state of the US economy that might happen again.....

It has been confirmed now, for anyone interested, that "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" part one will be on the DVD in full colour, with the problematic blues painted in manually, as an angle-branched alternative to the restored black and white version (which can also be chosen as an option). So it will be on there in colour to the best standard it has been possible to achieve with the available budget.

Fantastic news!! Thank You very much Laurence for the in-depth update there. Fascinating to hear further into the exacting process of the colour-restored version. As well, in regards to the cleaned-restored (VIDfired?) monochrome T/R as an available option. Just as I had posted previously , was suspecting this would be the case here. Thank You Again to Everyone involved-and still working on further releases!
I am looking forward to "The Ice Warriors", "Ambassadors Of Death", and "Mind Of Evil" DVD Releases in the future personally! Cannot wait to see IOTD Episode 1,should be very interesting. Most interested as well to see the restored Monochrome T/R, is also the only known existing T/R for Season 11 if I am not mistaken here ? Similarly,I am most interested to hear in regards to the upcoming Extras on this perspective 2-Disk release? Hoping these may be released in the near future.
Thank you again!!
Cheers,Lance.

Hi, isn't the version of Invasion (of the Dinosaurs) part 1 that was on the original VHS vidfired? I've got it and The studio bits look pretty smooth, in comparison with the filmed bits anyhow. All the same I'm looking forward to this DVD box set as IOTD is a favorite of mine and TAI is one of two T. Bakers i haven't got. And any colour is better than no colour hey

Yes, the results will be Vidfired. So i'm assuming that we will be able to choose between a monochrome Vidfired ep.1 and a colour Vidfired ep.1. The blue chroma information was apparently problematic to extract (although the other colours were ok) so they had to manually tweak this, which added a lot to the workload! Like you, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for full colour versions of Mind Of Evil and Ambassadors. Two of my favourite Pertwee stories. Even if the colour is offered as an option in a slightly limited way (as with Dinosaurs 1), it will be better than none at all. The fly in the ointment though will be Mind 1 (which has no chroma dots), so we shall have to wait and see what they decide to give us, I suppose. I'm sure it'll be as good as they can get on the available budget though.

If the blue chroma was missing we could have our first Dr Who that looks as if it was filmed on 2-strip Technicolor (or Cinecolor), like the colour films of the late 20's and early 30's.
