Anybody see Tinga and Tucker at the MBW? what was the opinion? I have to say I am really pleased that some of it has been preserved .Was it from its heyday around 65-66 sunday evenings? Does anyone know whatever happened to Jean Morton? and am I right in assuming it ended around 1968 about the time of the franchise turnarounds? I think Auntie Jean use to do a sort of Tinga and Tucker roadshow around Brum?

Anybody see Tinga and Tucker at the MBW? what was the opinion? I thought it was, er, interesting. A heavy Pinky and Perky influence in there, with the difference that the sped-up voices were almost unintelligible. Thought Jean Morton was downright scary, but the puppets were agreeably unfettered. Didn't she become the audience relations person at ATV? That one was from 1970. I read somewhere that it bit the dust when ATV bought the TV rights to Rupert the Bear. Quite possibly - making indecent gestures with her boomerang and making the world a stranger place.

The show must have survived in repeats beyond 1970, because my mother swears that she watched it with me when I were a babby, and I was born in 1971. Mum still remembers "Auntie Jean" and the magic sign, too.
I personally don't remember watching the show, but I do recall that we had some Tingha and Tucker postcards featuring photos of the puppets acting out Bible scenes.

I was told that the episode was from 1972, although the date 1966 on the NFT notes was definitely wrong whatever. I'm not sure when T & T ended for sure. I remember "Tree House Family" too, which was basically the same thing - was this the networked version with T & T more regional?

Well I was very dubious about the date in the notes, the quality seemed extremly good even for early 70's. It certainly got a lot of laughs, even more than the comedy extracts. Good to see something that clear and good clour (no comet tails as far as I could tell) from that era.

Yes I remember the Tree House Family as well on Sunday evenings around 1967/68 at 6.15pm in the religious slot. That was an ATV London programme which ended on the final Sunday of ATV Londons franchise. A shame that none of it seems to exist or does it ?
I believe Tingha and Tucker was on every weekday in the Midlands in the mid 60's, a sort of alternative to Rediffusions Small Time and showing cartoons.
Then I think it became an established networked weekly programme. The one that I saw fairly recently doing the trading rounds and probably different to that shown at MBW, certainly brought back many memories after 30 or so years.

Then I think it became an established networked weekly programme. I'm not sure if it was fully networked. Certainly Thames took it by 1970, but I haven't been able to find out yet if anyone else did.

I personally don't remember watching the show, but I do recall that we had some Tingha and Tucker postcards featuring photos of the puppets acting out Bible scenes. I'd agree with that - I was born in 1973, and my Mom says exactly the same. In fact we had (and still have...somewhere) a couple of Koala Teddys named Tinga (sic) and Tucker! Until recently I'd always assumed that Tingha and Tucker were ATV's equivalent of Gus Honeybun... but it appears they were more widespread... And I do recall that Jean Morton either went on to be, or was always, in ATV's Public Relations. I read in a Tiswas book a claim by Gordon Astley that his Father was something to do with Tingha and Tucker... but I've never been able to work out exactly what... There was a colour VT clip of Jean Morton and the Bears on the video release "The Best Children's TV of the Decade - 70s" - but I'd love to see more...

thanks everyone. Doh! I missed it.
LOL Louis ! Auntie Jean making obscene gestures with a boomerang then going on to have relationships with the public.....the mind boggles.
I am pretty sure she use to tour in a van like Mr Pipkin, except in real life?

There was a colour VT clip of Jean Morton and the Bears on the video release "The Best Children's TV of the Decade - 70s"... but I'd love to see more That selfsame episode was the one shown at MBW, albeit the whole thing rather than just the first minute or so. I'm glad I've now seen a full episode (beyond those I saw when I was too small to remember!), but that's enough for me - it had curiosity value, but I can't say I have any particular interest in seeing any more.
