I have had some very interesting news back from the BBC. From the TOTP compilation, Blue Mink's Good Morning Freedom - 12/03/70? - does not seem to exist in the archive at the BBC, and despite the accepted colour existence of Joe Dolan's You're Such a Good Looking Woman from 26/03/70, they have not got that either. They do actually have the promo for Kenny Rogers' Something's Burning at the BBC - presumably an insert, I guess. Which leads me to suspect this compilation reel was not sourced from the BBC. (would the Dolan or Blue Mink count as finds? ;-) ) They're too brief really to count as finds (and have been known of for a few years now). Thanks for the info, Ray. Why did the BBC specifically mention the Kenny Rogers clip then? Had you asked about it anyway? No surprises about the Blue Mink / Dolan clips but that was the first i'd heard of the Dolan appearance being commonly "accepted" to exist. I wouldn't mind betting that both clips exist complete somewhere outside the archive then. I don't have the info to hand right now but were both in the same show at any time, perchance? Just thinking out loud here, you understand...

No, the info of the Rogers promo was offered to me by the BBC. It's from the edition as Joe Dolan, 26/03/70, and that's why it was mentioned.
Oddly, there doesn't seem to be any promos from Something's Burning from that year from TOTP. There is, of course, the footage from 26/02/70. But this is specifically mentioned as a promo.
The Dolan is mentioned on Pete Seaton's Poptastic, but Good Morning Freedom's existence isn't!

Ah, right. Thanks, Ray. I see now why Rogers was mentioned at all! No promos for Something's Burning used at all? Nothing on the PasBs (my copies are filed paper and I can't access them here and now to check)? Maybe an unused film then, like the Sandie Shaw appearance which is thought to be unused. I'm assuming you mean a TOTP-filmed promo though?
Missing TOTP is a vast web of intrigue and rumour but i'm personally convinced that more is still out there to uncover...

The Poptastic database listed the Rogers promo as being shown, but never said it was existing! Hence my cheeky punt as stating a find of sorts. It's quite likely to be a TOTP-filme insert, methinks. Incidentally, the Caravel-filmed Back Off Boogaloo (Ringo Starr) - shown in 1972 on TOTP, and filmed on the same location as Born to Boogie, the T Rex film from the same year, trivia fans (and the Imagine promo, shot in '71, shown in '81) has some outtakes existing:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDhSLbEu1ScWould that count as a find? ??!!!!! ?

As this thread had slipped onto page 2, I thought I'd post an update to remind readers that we're still searching for early episodes of Mike Read's Pop Quiz aired between 18 July 1981 (S01E03) and 18 September 1984 (S04E09) - all other episodes have now been checked. There is now only one show from Series 4 and one show from Series 3 that we know nothing about. However, we still need details on most of Series 2 and half of Series 1. You can view the current status of which shows haven't been checked yet at the top of this thread (page 1). Many thanks for everybody's input to date. We're over half way towards our goal of cataloguing every single episode of Pop Quiz...

Sounds intriguing, Rob. I'm looking forward to finding out if it's Episode 3, 5, 6 or 8 (the only ones I'm missing from 1981).
Episode 6 was screened a couple of months ago at the last Kal event. Obviously, it didn't include anything special as someone at the event would have brought it to our attention by now...

No-one has posted details of S04E09 yet so I thought I'd include some screenshots from the show that I came across on a Judie Tzuke site: www.tzuke-info.net/jt-tv_pop_quiz2.shtmlI've enlarged the thumbnails of the music clips and added them below in the hope that someone can help identify them: Clip 1: Lou Reed (A Night With Lou Reed, 1983) Clip 2: Dobie Gray - Drift Away (OGWT, 1974) Clip 3: Ry Cooder - Crazy 'Bout An Automobile (OGWT, 1982) Clip 4: U2 - New Years Day (promo, 1983) Clip 5: Elvis Presley & Frank Sinatra - Love Me Tender/Witchcraft (The Frank Sinatra Show, 1960) Clip 6: Anyone recognize any of these? Artist? Show? Song? Year?

Thanks, Dave. The only one I recognize is the first one which is Lou Reed recorded at The Bottom Line, NY in 1983. It was released on video as "A Night With Lou Reed". He swaps guitars several times throughout the show so the guitar strap shown above only matches certain songs, like this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUMtRWMgkbs

Clip 2 looks like Dobie Gray performing Drift Away on OGWT.

Clip 3 is around 1978 or just after. For some reason I thought clip 6 was Leonard Cohen!
