Hello everyone, not sure if you can help me but I need some help, back in 1973 a friend of mine was in a band called The Hotshots and they had a hit with a song called Snoopy v the red baron and from what I believe it reach number 4 in the charts back then, sadly my friend past away a few years back and I have been searching the Internet trying to find if his one and only appearance on Top of the pops is still available to view/copy.
It reached number 4 in June 1973 but I'm not sure when he was on the TOTP but I'm guessing somewhere around that time, if anyone can advise me on what I need to do to try to find a copy I would really appreciate your help, failing that a photo of the band would do.
Regards Paul

I'm pretty sure that most of TOTP '73 are long gone Paul (as in wiped by the beeb). Roy Wood's glorious string of hits through '73 barely survive, one only on Christmas '73 editions (or some such idiocy) so my hopes for you retrieving 'The Hotshots' clip are pretty slim.
Your only hope is that audio may survive (taped off the tv at the time) and you never know, a private collector may come forward and help you. And this is the best place for this to possibly happen Paul. Best of luck mate.
Thomas.

Hi Paul, it might be worth checking some of the European broadcaster's archives in countries such as Germany that have a much better archiving track record than the UK. That is assuming your friend did a promotional tour over there at the time?

The TOTP episodes are long gone. 8-6-73: Presenter: Noel Edmonds (Wiped) 22-6-73: Presenter: Kenny Everett (Wiped) Toppop (Holland) has a far better music archive than TOTP for the year 1973 unfortunately the Hotshots never appeared on that show presumably because the record wasn't a hit over there.

Hi, my name's Alan and I was the bassplayer with the Hotshots who appeared on Top of the Pops, June 1973 along with Kelvin on drums and Pete on Guitar. We tried for years to get a copy of the tape of the show, but were informed by the BBC archive people that had been wiped. Headlining that show were Mott The Hoople , who we met and also Pans People. I have cuttings from the Melody Maker, whose photographer was the only person allowed on the set at rehearsal.

I would say, "A Result!" of sorts. Pity 'GlamMan' has seen fit to plaster his legend all over the screen. The quality is quite good, albeit b&w.

What's the point of uploading something to a video sharing site if you're only going to mark it as private and therefore not shared??? Or am I missing something here???

Shelley, it was ok when I looked at it soon after the posting, a few hours ago. Now it's gone 'Private' on me. Like you, I don't understand the point of people doing this. Perhaps it's a power thing.......

This is Pan's People from 22/6/1973 www.youtube.com/watch?v=dujjJQ_KXB4 Old news,I suspect, but I'm not up on TOTP. Over the last few days the same person has uploaded PP performances from 27/4/1972,23/3/1978,and 16/3/1978.Are any of these missing?

Definitely, Brian, a kind of "I've got it, I want you to know I've got it ... you want to see it, but you can't ..." thing. Pathetic.
