I've located a 16mm "Blackmail" episode, but the heads and the tails of the print are in a sorry state. The good news is that the show itself is intact... What I need to know is a) what's the title of this episode, and b) Is it missing?
The opening titles are gone, but part of the cast credits are there -- they include "Andrew Crawford", "Stanley Meadows", "Brian Murphy", "Wensley Pithey" and "Lelia Goldini".
There are no end titles at all (oddly enough, it ends with a fade out, and then a Viacom logo (Viacom??)).
In this episode: a guy (named Cobb I think) is Blackmailing a number of people:
1) A Brigadier general, who at the outset of the episode is found dead in a car (the blackmailer takes some money from the body)
2) An actress who is married to a cabinet minister, who was having an affair
3) His boss, who (we find later) he caught cheating on his taxes
4) A Vicar - unclear for what. The Vicar tells him off and refuses to pay
5) A school teacher who (I think) is a pedophile
6) A male Librarian who was writing illicit letters to a young boy (who apparently didn't really exist).
Someone breaks into the blackmailers apartment and removes his materials and replaces them with a newspaper article on the dead brigadier. The blackmailer goes to all of his marks and accuses them of doing it - and threatens them. Meanwhile his bosses wife arrives and threatens him, he tries to get sexual favors out of him, but he sees a man outside the window. It ends with him getting a phone call (I think the concept being that he was now being blackmailed himself)...
One other interesting bit -- they play one of my favorite old Petula Clark songs "I know a place" at a party during the show...
Anyone have any ideas on what episode this is, and whether it exists??
Thanks in advance!!
