Another hero gone and another chunk of my childhood gone for good. I saw the report late on Tues evening and it was such a shock...cant deny shedding a tear or two for her...

Although I hadn't met her, I do have a nice letter she sent me in 1998 to go with a signed photo I'd requested - looking at today's Times obit, it seems she was 65 (born 1946) - they do say that some sources give 1948 - but the earlier date does fit in as more realistic for her early career. Even so, still too young.

slightly o/t but I am not a Dr.Who fan in the dedicated sense,but have watched it over the years so when 'The Hand of Fear' came on BBC4 this week it was quite fresh to me. So I have to say it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, I dont know if it was restored or not but it looked smashing in the traditional sense. 1970s effects and sets didnt matter because Tom Baker, Liz and the others just carried you along with the story. Now that Liz has gone the final minutes were quite upsetting.

I think Mrs Sladen was a class act I was thrilled to see her return in the David Tenant era I never met her but she was my favorite companion R.I.P. you will truly be missed
