All great clips.
None missing AFAIK
3 4 and 5 are from ABC's Pop Spot.

Very interesting, Alan. I've never seen these before and it's hard to say what show they're from. Most of Big Night Out is supposed to be missing and these almost look to be too good quality to be from any surviving t/rs of that show, which I can imagine would be grainy. Hard to say on a computer but they look like they might be from pristine VT to me.
Just a thought but were these clips featured on the recent British Invasion Pacemakers set? They look like they've been sourced from somewhere high quality. I don't have it to know but i'm wondering if these are not from Big Night Out but European TV instead. One has a Rainbow screen logo.
What was Pop Spot? I haven't heard of that one.

I'm surprised that any of this material is from Big Night Out (and in such good quality). As far as I knew, most editions were missing and the few crumbs that survived were pretty ropey looking. Good news anyway. Does this material reside with Canal + (the owners of the ABC archive) then?
Never heard of a show called Pop Spot though!

Laurence, i don't know much about pop spot myself only by what it says on lost shows.Out of an original total of 23 episodes 12 episodes are missing, some really good acts on the show including Dusty Springfield ,Sandie Shaw,Dave Clark 5,The Searchers,Cilla Black Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders and many more from 64/65.What i'd like to know is whether it was a variety show or was it just pop artists.

Well, you learn something new every day! Thanks for the info, Alan. Amazingly, i'd never heard of an ABC (or any) programme called Pop Spots before now. 11 existing editions is a pretty high survival rate for an ABC show though. The Lost Shows database only lists what's missing so i'd be interested to know who's in the shows which exist. Does anybody have further info on this little known series that they can post here? Was it maybe just a regional series (which would possibly explain why some of us hadn't heard of it)? Like Alan, i'd be interested to know if it was all pop or variety. The name "pop spots" though seems to suggest it was just a short slot.

Apparently "Pop Spot" was a series where top recording stars sang their own particular favourites from their hit songs.

These do look like t/r's, but from negatives and very well transferred. Well, the first two clips anyway!

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but these are all featured on the Gerry & the Pacemakers disc in the "British Invasion" series. None are missing clips.
The first two are from "Big Night Out" (Feb 8 1964, IIRC). The others are from Pop Spot.
Colin.

What i'd be interested to know is does the Big Night Out edition for 8/2/64 therefore exist complete or is it just the Gerry clips?

Just thought i'd resurrect this old thread i'd started back in 2011 it might be of some interest seeing as we are discussing pop spot ,it's a shame the clips on here are no longer available.

Ouch! Did you have to mention 'Big Night Out',Alan? We think it's this 'Big Night Out' rather than the Reeves and Mortimer one which was scheduled for release by Network this year-several online stores still have it listed-but it's release is at least suspended.Sigh.
