my first proper post here, but I am wondering if anyone can help me. I am desperately trying to trace whether a specific episode of Opportunity Knocks from around 1964-1970 still exsists and i Don't know where to start, or even if there's any hope of finding it. I am trying to find it as my late mother was one of the contestants on it (as part of a ladies choir) and my family would love to see it again (and her grandchildren would love to see it for the first time) any advice or help would be so gratefully received.

Unfortunately I only know of one ABC edition from 1964 and one from 1965 existing as film telerecordings. Be useful if anyone knows the act line ups. During 25 YEARS OF ITV (1975) recall they ran a TR clip of Tony Hollands the body builder from that time flexing muscles against a card skyline of St Pauls Cathedral. This seemed to exist as film at that time. Hope this is some help.

When your mother entred it she would have been given a film script for the programme, any chance of finding it to get more info? there are a very few listed here www.imdb.com/title/tt0198197/epcast#season-unknownIf it was pre July 1968 then you could try Canal television at Pinewood Studios . If it was post July 68 then Freemantle television may be able to help you? but I'm afraid we are clutching straws here in the middle of the sea with so little info and a programme tat never got repeated.

firstly, thanks both for the quick replies. unfortunately, i don't have much more info on this episode. if mum did have a shooting script it's long gone I'm afraid. I can't even recall who else was on the show as I was only 5 or 6 at the time. the only things i can add, as that she was part of The Llangewydd Ladies Chior and they sang "The Bells of St Mary's" and that they were the final act on that particular show. I know it's not much but I really do appreciate any help or info anyone can supply.

There's also the July 1968 edition that exists on VT (the penultimate ABC show) but the act you mention is not part of this, which is an all-winners show.

Hi Mark,
As far as I am aware, there are only possibly two film recordings as mentioned earlier (64/65) and the ABC penultimate show from july 68 on 405. The act you are after isn't on either the 68 or the 65 show for definate. Best of luck with your search. Davidxx

Hi Mark,
Have just had a look at the lostshows.com lists and that says that only the ABC all winners show from 1968 exists from the years 64-70, which can't be right!? I have one that I think is about 65 off f/r apart from that all winner show. Anyone shed any light on this anomily?

Hughie Green apparently had some editions in his own collection (no idea what happened to these when he died though). A few t/r clips used to turn up in retrospectives some years ago that seem to have gone off the radar since (these could possibly have been taken from his own collection). Maybe the '64 / '65 editions were from there?
A brief t/r clip of a '60s show did appear on the news when Hughie died so i've no idea where that came from. Does anyone know who holds these editions? The BFI has the '68 All Winners Show and apparently a couple in colour from the '70s, including the final show from '78 and an edition from about '71.

If there is no tx date for the Opp Knocks held by Canalplus, the Lostshows db cant handle shows without tx dates, it tends to output a blank, dunno why, so it's probably a computer glitch why it doesn't show up on the listings. I know we do have two ABC shows in the wider database.
Oddly, the Hughie Green stuff given to the NFA seems never to have been catalogued or transferred, I have asked a few times for a list of what came back but everyone seems very vague.
On a more personal level, how nice to hear from you again David, are you well?

Hi Chris, Thankyou for the info on the Opp Knocks eps.
On a personal note, I am generally keeping well. I am now retired from the BBC due to health reasons (I think it's fairly generally known that I suffered a burst anuerysm in my brain in my 20's) and I now live a generally quiet and fairly stress free life back in Portsmouth. I try and keep across general news and info on 'finds' and try and my name still pops up from time to time on things ('Wiped'/The Missing years etc). Though I am fairly reclusive these days, I am still the generally nice guy that many people remember...lol. Cheers, Davidx
