Another thing we have in common, Mr Seaton. I collect public information films too. Apparantly there's an audio somewhere, but I've never tracked it down.
There's too others I think may have been wiped I want to find - Single Track Road (late 70's), and one I saw being broadcast on Westward in about '77 when on holiday where a guy bets random people money that he can cross a busy road without looking. Tyoically predictable results....

I can recall the Reginald Molehusband film quite well myself. There are lots of those PIFs missing though - particularly from the '60s - that are well remembered which were notably absent from the Charley Says volumes (which were excellent, by the way, and a third volume would be most welcome if there is enough material to use).
Do you have a link to that piece of info, Pete? Any reason the BBC are suddenly seeking that particular film?

I think it's very odd that many PIFs are missing, considering the vast majority were made on film, were repeated regularly by both ITV companies and the BBC; you'd think there were many copies knocking around.

Quite. I expect copies do turn up at film fairs etc. though. Mind you, a few missing ones survive on live BBC PasB t/r recordings from the '60s which seem to have been overlooked for DVD releases so far, although they are definitely in the archive!

well, ive gone through all the PIF type shows that I used to record (it deffo wont be on the repeat of Protect and survive so ill skip over that one), ive a lot of the "Commercial Breakdown" shows, so im wondering if it's on there.....
I was quite fond of the Reg PIF as my dad had one of those Morris 1300's at the time and we used to compare Reg and my dad as both were so cautious drivers.
I swear it was last seen just before BBC/ITV went all 24 hour and used to be occasionally used before closedown. and these old PIF's were still used in 1987 (as the keep britain tidy messy high street 1975) was shown around Jan 1987 and i recorded it, so anyone must have a VHS of old reg somewhere....
ps that martian PIF c1973 that i remembered as a kid and was frightened of with that shhhhooook noise & bright light is on the Charey Says Vol 2 DVD, but I remember it in b/w, so i turned down the colour and it brought back memories....
Its funny how things stick in your mind. Sometimes ,when I chance upon an elderly driver in front of me proceding at 22 miles an hourI exclaim"Come on Reginald Molehusband" Cue my wife giving me an odd look. I believe Reginald was driving a black Ford Popular in the film.
Maybe I was getting confused with the Monty Python Sketch. The epic journey from Carlsholten to Purley or somesuch. I remember a public information film from around the same time about overcrowding your car. Does this still exsist?
