Hi all,
A bit of early 2010 good news. On Monday this week, an edition of the BBC series 'Scene' entitled 'Let There Be Light' written by Alan Plater was returned to the BBC studios at the Mailbox in Birmingham. The film was one of three black and white 16mm optical sound films returned by the Media Archive for Central England at the University of Leicester, the other two being already surviving editions of Play School.
The films were supplied to the University by BBC Enterprises in the 1970's.
Regards,
Paul

Thanks for telling us, Paul. A bit of good news. Can you say what the date of the episode is? Is Scene fairly complete in the archives or are many missing? I only know about the drama episodes which seem to mainly exist. Is this a rare drama missing item?

Is this a rare drama missing item?Dave Well, it was missing, so I guess quite rare as there's only one copy! No idea of TX dates, but no doubt those details will be filled in when accessioned into the main archive. Paul

It raises the question of what else was supplied by BBC Ents to Universities - presumably these records have been checked where they still exist..?

I'd like to thank Kaleidoscope for their Lost Shows website as it was via that source that I identified it as a missing 'Scene' when it came into MACE. Even for us working in 'the trade' it's not always easy to find out what's what in archive TV. So thanks guys.

Thanks Joe. I have just seen the details on the 2010 recoveries list in the thread on this forum!
Thank you too to Phil Leach for identifying the Scene edition as missing and managing to get it back to the BBC. We need more recoveries like this.
