I can recall moments from 'lost' episodes
in one Adam has to land a plane, in another there is a fight in a recording studio with a foe being electrocuted.
the concept is perfect for a remake - BUT I fear if done today we would get alot of silly 'messages' inserted by modern writers forever telling us how much BETTER we are today as a 'improved' society, just how 'ENLIGHTENED' and 'CORRECT' we all are now (yawn)
- has a society ever in history "over rated" itself as highly as our modern media (Television especially) tries to kid us we are today ?
the great thing about 'Adam Adament Lives' was that Adam was portrayed perfectly by Gerald Harper AS a nobleman of a past time, a gentleman with those values who was a decent & brave chap (!) and who somehow managed to bring his core values with him into the swinging sixties (Patrick Macnee's John Steed in 'The Avengers' was played in the style of Leslie Howard's 'Scarlet Pimpernel' per Macnee thus a similar approach)
added to that swinging sixties chick 'Georgina Brown' (played perfectly by Juilet Harmer) and his 'Crichton like' manservant (Jack May in great form) and BBC had a potentially great show
...trouble is a faction within the BBC felt it was 'all a bit too ITV' (shudders at Broadcasting House)
- therefore the show later was pitched directly against the firmly established much loved 'Avengers'(Steed/Emma) which ensured it would quickly lose it's audience
(I assume the intentions of those faceless BBC upper execs)
hence later the producers' team trying to 'explain away a failure' etc...
I'd love to see the missing dozen episodes found
Yes i think if this was re made today i know i wouldn't like it i mean of all the classic shows and classic films that have been re made in recent times how many have bettered the original in my opinion not one .
The episode where there is a fight in a recording studio with a foe being electrocuted is from the existing show " Sing A Song Of Murder" i clearly remember watching this one at the time and one of the best episodes in the series .
