I think these can be added to the list for Lift-Off clips that still exist. LIFT OFF WITH AYSHEA (EPISODE 125) 29th July 1974 Bay City Rollers (Shang A Lang and Summer Love Sensation) / Bilbo Baggins (Saturday Night) / Dave Hunter (Jesamine) / Clip of Cliff Richard (Dancin' Shoes from 'Summer Holiday') Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock'Roll (Promo) / Sweet Dreams (Honey Honey). Also this one from an unidentified show in 1974 Sweet Sensation - Sad Sweet Dreamer. and this one maybe? Showaddywaddy - Hey Rock'n'Roll

Glad the episode guide is appreciated anyway, Alan. I'd guess Chinatown was played on Lift Off too but the TOTP appearance for it is missing too and I have yet to find an existing performance from any show. A shame as it's a favourite of mine of The Move's numbers. Roy Wood appearances ON LIFT OFF as far as I can recall: BRONTOSAURUS (1970); 'CHINATOWN'; 'TONIGHT' (1971); 'CALIFORNIA MAN';'WHEN GRANDMA PLAYS THE BANJO' (1972); 'DEAR ELAINE'; 'SEE MY BABY JIVE'; 'FAREWELL' (WITH AYSHEA) (1973).

Yes it's a real shame there's no surviving footage of The Move doing "Chinatown" i'm really hoping something will turn up one day.

There are a great many photos from Lift off showing various stages & backgrounds. You are right that many of them have colored pattern backgrounds, various stages etc. There is a picture of the Bay City Rollers with Ayshea with the plain pink background behind them. Another bit of evidence is the microphones which match many photos from Lift-off, I know that ITV used them on other shows too. The other, and more convincing evidence is an actual surviving performance in the archives that has the pink background. Here is some brief snippets from Showaddywaddy's performance on Lift-Off of 'Hey Mr Christmas' www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FUHSwuloTA

I believe that there were multiple sets used on the same dates. 45 is another example of this where the sets varied week by week. There were earlier 'bare' sets used for other performances with different colours. Here's Ayshea performing with a bare blue background. and Roy Wood
