I havent seen a v2000 since the early 80s. Just out of curiosity does anyone know what the picture quality is like and how durable the tapes tend to be?

Well, very good if you ask me. Technically it was much better than VHS.

VHS was a little bit ropey. I always favoured betamax, but of course that lost out to those chunky VHS tapes. My uncle Phillip had several old video recorders in the early 80s and I believe late 70s, but he hasnt had the tapes or machines in a very looong time. He worked in a second hand electronics shop at the time, so he had access to all sorts. I can remember all sorts of weird looking machines residing in his flat when I was a kid. I wonder what might have gone through his hands........? Something we will never know!

I saw an advert once of a bunch of tapes, all formats. The story was that when people bought new equipment they could turn in their old stuff. So some people turned in their tapes along with their vcrs. Of course it would have been quite a task sorting it all out.

Do not purchase these,I warn you. I had purchased a lot of N1500/N1700 tapes from this same seller over a year ago, and still has yet to post them. Stole my money, and refuses all messages. This matter is currently being taken up with ebay. However, I thought it best to place a word of warning here, beware!
He has sold a lot of interesting material in the past, however.I am not alright by any means with a thief.
Cheers,Lance.

Lance you have confirmed my suspicions . I am pretty sure this is the same guy who claimed to have a complete Timeslip series in colour on N1500 sometime back ?

That'll be the person known as "Egyptian Papyrus" then. His real name is known, of course, but EP was proven a fraud a few years back over on Mausoleum Club and seems to be trying the same tricks now. If he does have tapes to sell, they're probably blank, unplayable or full of more recent (not rare) rubbish!

V2000 was virtually an obsolete system by 1985, the last few models that visionhire were renting out by then were breaking down on a regular basis and the tapes were notoriously expensive. I would approach any seller with caution who claimed to have anything on this system by 1989. Of course he could have been re-using the tapes - even so the tapes would be quite worn (as they were recoded on both sides).

Obsolete, yes, but it's not unlikely that someone could have used it taking advantage of other people dumping their tapes. Or taping over his own tapes again and again. The only curious thing strange about it is the number: over 500 tapes for the V2000? Yes, that is strange.
