Here's what I got from the Lost UK Tv Shows Database: www.lostshows.com/default.aspx?programme=c05cf7e3-d551-4ac3-b824-d8f949a69369Missing or incomplete episodes for programme OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS. This show ran from 1964 to 1978. We're not sure exactly how many were produced, but only 18 editions, mainly specials and "All Winners' Shows" still exist. The Winners' Special from 20.07.68 is the only show existing from 1964 - 1970.

The bfi has some: ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/21141If they have detail, they normally have them. I think they have a Mark Hopkins one from 68. Was this shown on tv heaven all those years ago?

The show featuring Mary Hopkin is the Winners Special from 20-07-68.
Not sure if this was screened in the TV Heaven spot or not.

Hmm, not sure about the figure of 18 existing though, unless some are off-airs. There seem to be only about four or so masters ('68 all-winners show, '78 final show plus about two from '71 / '72). Can anyone actually date the 18 that are claimed to survive?

I believe there are a few off airs in existence. Have seen one from 1978 from a few weeks before the final show. Hughie Green plugs the forthcoming show naming many of the winners and famous acts set to appear on it. All I can remember of it actually since the acts in this edition were rather awful and have never been heard of since! Another recent thread on this show did point out that 7 other "special" shows exist. Check Phil Leach's post on this thread for details on those. missingepisodes.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=totp&action=display&thread=4000Not standard editions admittedly but neither is the 1968 one or the final one from 1978. So, it seems shows of a "special" nature managed to survive whereas the hundreds of standard editions were junked. A very low survival rate whichever way one looks at it.

On an official level I have the Thames TV and ABC print-outs and there are indeed only 18 officially, though there may be more in private hands. The NFTVA are included in that 18.

Do you have the tx dates for all of them, by any chance, Chris? I'm curious to know. Also, are they all masters or are any of the number off-airs? Thanks in advance.

Huge thanks for this Christopher! Nice to know for sure what is actually left of this show. So, it works out at just 6 "standard" editions of the show. A shocking statistic but at least its better than nothing.

Thanks Chris. Pleased about the '65 show as I didn't know about that one! Are these all masters / trs or are any off-air? Presumably they all reside in one archive or another or are any in private hands? Just curious.

Ack, there's a lot of innaccuracies in that Lost Uk TV Shows Database... They list a lot of shows as missing that aren't...

Hi Paul
Then please do send me a list of the inaccuracies and I will put them right. We work very hard to make sure the db is as accurate as it can be, so I encourage people to email me errors so we can check them out, rather than making comments on message boards that say "there are errors..." and then don't actually say what the error is. :-)
We have over 1 million entries in the db now so I would expect some errors to creep in.
We said 18 Opp Knocks, and there are 18 on our list. Unsure how that doesn't tally up? The 1 from 1965 is a tr and we don't know the tx date, so the db would not show that ep as an early one, it's the footnote that says 1965.
All are digibeta transfers except that 1965 ep Laurence.

Cheers guys The episode I was interested in featured my agent and friend introducing a band called 'Wishful Thinking', and I hope one day it turns up for her.
