hi i know this subject has been covered before but i think there is a better chance of finding missing material , that has been filmed from a tv to an 8mm camera . the only problem is where do you target appeals for these films . possibly film and photography clubs . i came across an article in an old 8mm magazine from 1968 which went into detail on how to film tv progs the article was even illustrated with off screen images from dr.who (' wheel in space' ) when i come across old 8mm films at carboot sales/ house clearance/ jumble (they are usually giving them away) i try to check them for any telecine, but i must admit it's a very longshot. but i know from when i used 8mm i often finished a film by shooting scenes from favorite shows mike

i came across an article in an old 8mm magazine from 1968 which went into detail on how to film tv progs the article was even illustrated with off screen images from dr.who (' wheel in space' ) Which magazine was it, Mike? It's certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility that other rare material was shot on domestic 8mm (and indeed, we covered all the known examples of off-air 8mm Doctor Who in Nothing at the End of the Lane #2), but I guess that we'd only be looking at quick excerpts due to the cost of the film stock, although that would be better than nothing! ;D Richard

I've got planned a small article from my blog about this subject, including some examples, plus a guy who used to record programmes with sound on standard 8mm.

perhaps you could try and contact the people who wrote the article and see if they have anything, after all they must have had a go at off screen recording if only to experiment.

Also, if there are any similar magazines for entheusiasts being printed today, you could contact them and try to get a story run.

It's already being done! The picture in the magazine is from the missing Episode 4. Peter Dean was a rather well known writer of articles and books on home movies in the 1960s and 70s, although I've got a nasty feeling that he died some time ago. I'm trying to get confirmation of that at the moment. Richard

Also, if there are any similar magazines for enthusiasts being printed today, you could contact them and try to get a story run. I actually did this a few years ago with the one cine magazine left in the UK - Amateur Cine Enthusiast. There was no response! Richard

At least you tried, that is what counts. So it might be a possibility that Peter Dean is still alive ? It will be interresting to see what you can dig up on him.
Lance.
