Hi James -
I guess I do miss your point -- I was just saying that the DVD release of Moonbase 4 looks nice partially because there's a really nice 16mm telerecording that the RT had to work from.
As far as I know there's only one known original print of "Invasion 6" (at the BBC). So, any privately held prints are likely dupes and would be lower quality than the original. If the original is as mediocre as people say (I haven't looked at the video release in ages) - then while it will surely look better after cleanup - it's not going to look as good as an episode for which there is a nice print....

The VHS version is *very* mediocre. Stuart

I just compared the VHS version of episode 6 to a 16mm version -- very interesting. It looks like it's possible that the VHS version was made from a dupe print -- it has that contrasty look that dupes get... I also noticed at least one splice in the VHS version that's not in the 16mm.. Even more odd...
In any case, the 16mm print looks quite a bit better than the VHS - so I would guess that with a good wetgate spirit transfer and a vidifre treatment, it will look a lot better...

Has anyone thought of contacting the buyer to see if the print could be borrowed if its superior in quality to the Beebs print!
