Going by the surviving audio, The Nightmare Gas, sounds like it was a great story, hopefully one day, some kind person with upload the audio of the third episode and the other extant audios of the missing episodes.
Here’s a transcription of the two audios currently on Youtube. Because of the quality of the audio, some guesswork was needed for some of the action and dialogue, but hopefully, while not a 100 percent accurate representation of what happened in the episodes, they help other listeners get a better idea of the flow of the story.
ACE OF WANDS - THE NIGHTMARE GAS BY DON HOUGHTON
EPISODE ONE
PART ONE
1. INT. MR SWEET'S SHOP. BACK ROOM.
SAM SHOWS MR SWEET A PAINTING OF A GROUP OF PARLIAMENTARIAN SOLDIERS AND THEIR ROYALIST PRISONER OUTSIDE THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
SAM: Hundreds of these for that one knight in the uniform. And it tells a story, don't it? I mean, Roundheads, Cavaliers, Cromwell and all that.
MR SWEET: Yes, it would appear to be the English civil war period.
2. INT. MR SWEET'S SHOP. MAIN SHOP.
SHOP BELL RINGS. AN AGITATED DR WINTHROP ENTERS. MR SWEET ENTERS FROM THE BACK ROOM.
WINTHROP: Mr Sweet?
MR SWEET: Yes, can I help you?
WINTHROP: Yes, I hope so. My name is Winthrop, Dr Richard Winthrop, you knew my father, Professor George Winthrop.
MR SWEET: Indeed I did, we were great friends.
WINTHROP: He said you were a man to be trusted.
MR SWEET: Is there something wrong?
WINTHROP: Yes, there's something desperately wrong.
MR SWEET: Would you mind coming through here?
3. INT. MR SWEET'S SHOP. BACK ROOM.
MR SWEET AND DR WINTHROP ENTER THE BACK ROOM.
WINTHROP: I had to find someone I could... (WINTHROP STOPS SHORT WHEN HE SEES SAM.)
MR SWEET: Oh, this is a friend of mine. (TO SAM) Er, Sam, a chair for Dr Winthrop. (SAM GETS A CHAIR FOR THE DOCTOR.)
WINTHROP: Oh, thank you.
MR SWEET: Now, what is the trouble?
WINTHROP: I think I'm being followed.
MR SWEET: Have you any idea why?
WINTHROP: Yes, I think I have.
MR SWEET: Supposing we start from the beginning, Doctor Winthrop.
WINTHROP: The day before yesterday an army truck was hijacked on its way to the coast, it was ambushed and something was stolen from it.
SAM: Sounds like one for the law.
WINTHROP: No, it's a matter for national security. I work for a chemical research establishment, we manufacture various military gasses and chemicals. The lorry, the one that was hijacked, contained a crate of gas cylinders that had been condemned. They'd been taken away to be dumped.
SAM: But, who'd want to nick that sort of gear?
WINTHROP: The crates that were stolen contained a gas we call H23
SAM: Dangerous?
WINTHROP: Deadly.
MR SWEET: By that, you mean poisonous?
WINTHROP: Poison can only kill a man, Mr Sweet, the effects of this gas are, far, far worse. H23 is the identification code for Hallucinix 23, but I call it the nightmare gas.
4. INT. TAROT'S H/Q.
TAROT: Nightmare Gas?
WINTHROP: Yes, I was trying to produce a mild tranquillising substance.
TAROT: As a more pleasant substitute to CS gas?
WINTHROP: Yes. Instead, I discovered one of the most deadly compounds known. The effects of this gas are terrifying, Tarot.
TAROT: How?
WINTHROP: When the victim inhales the stuff, he immediately loses consciousness. Then, in that unconscious state, he experiences the most vivid, the most realistic hallucinations, he's transported in time and space into a nightmare world.
TAROT: But, surely, that happens to us sometimes, when we fall asleep and begin to dream.
WINTHROP: Subconsciously, our mind knows that the dream is purely temporary. We know we're going to wake up. With H23 there's no such guarantee, the subject's completely involved. So vivid is this nightmare, so awful, that the victim will die of shock within the space of 23 minutes.
5. EXT. TAROT'S H/Q. DAY.
THALIA SMITH AND HER MONOSYLLABIC BROTHER, DALBIAC, HAVE FOLLOWED SAM AND DR WINTHROP FROM MR SWEET'S SHOP TO TAROT'S H/Q. THALIA RETURNS TO THE DARK SALOON CAR HAVING DISCOVERED WHO LIVES AT THE ADDRESS.
DALBIAC: Well?
THALIA: Looks as if it he’s with a man called Tarot.
DALBIAC: Who?
THALIA: Tarot. He's some kind of magician, an illusionist, I think.
DALBIAC: Why?
THALIA: Oh, I don't know.
DALBIAC: Dangerous?
THALIA: Nothing is too dangerous for us to handle.
DALBIAC: Correct.
THALIA: Correct.
DALBIAC: Patience.
THALIA: Correct. We must have patience.
6. INT. TAROT'S H/Q.
TAROT, MR SWEET, SAM AND LULLI LISTEN AS DR WINTHROP EXPLAINS MORE ABOUT THE NIGHTMARE GAS, HALLUCINIX 23.
WINTHROP: I have made exhaustive tests on myself and my assistant. We experienced the effects of the gas on five occasions, each time lasting no more than three minutes. I can't tell you how ghastly it was.
TAROT: But, how did you come out of it?
WINTHROP: Fortunately, there is an antidote, (HE PRODUCES A SMALL BOTTLE CONTAINING A SAMPLE OF THE ANTIDOTE) An injection of this will bring the subject out of the coma. Unfortunately, it is very difficult and costly to manufacture. (HE PLACES THE BOTTLE ON THE TABLE.) That's all we were able to make.
MR SWEET: Who else would have known the significance of Hallucinix 23? And who else would have known it was condemned and supposed to be dumped?
WINTHROP: Erm...
TAROT: Dr Winthrop, you said earlier that you'd kept your findings completely secret, not even your superiors knew how deadly the gas was.
WINTHROP: No one did. The whole project was a closed secret, as soon as I knew what I'd created, I just wanted to destroy it completely.
TAROT: Someone must have known. You mentioned an assistant.
WINTHROP: Oh, Thalia Smith, she's been cleared by security.
MR SWEET: Even security have been known to make mistakes, Dr Winthrop.
TAROT: What do you know about her?
WINTHROP: Brilliant girl. Completely dedicated. Very Ambitious.
LULLI: Umm, that sounds ominous.
SAM: Blimey.
WINTHROP: I trusted her completely, without her help I would never have...
TAROT: (INTERRUPTING) You would never have discovered the nightmare gas.
WINTHROP: Yes, that's right.
TAROT: Where is she now?
WINTHROP: I don't know. She left the research establishment a few weeks ago. She had a sick brother
TAROT: Very convenient. And I imagine that this brother of hers became sick shortly after you condemned Hallucinix 23.
WINTHROP: (SUDDEN REALISATION) Yes.
TAROT: Whatever we do, we've got to work fast and secretly.
WINTHROP: The authorities believe a relatively harmless tranquillising gas has been stolen and they don't know what H23 can do. If I was to tell anyone about the stuff...
SAM: You'd cause a king-sized panic.
WINTHROP: I get the feeling I'm being watched.
TAROT: Can the gas be activated?
WINTHROP: In its present form, no.
MR SWEET: Thank goodness.
WINTHROP: Not without this (HE PRODUCES A PIECE OF APPARATUS FROM HIS POCKET.) This is the activation device. It screws on to the neck of the cylinder and forms it into a pressure pack. (HE PUTS THE ACTIVATOR BACK IN HIS POCKET.)
LULLI: Only it isn't soda water that squirts out the other end.
SAM: No, it's a right dose of the old nasties.
7. EXT. TAROT'S H/Q. DAY.
DALBIAC AND THALIA ARE WAITING FOR DR WINTHROP TO REAPPEAR.
DALBIAC: Time.
THALIA: Oh, he's only been in a few minutes.
DALBIAC: Fetch.
THALIA: There's no need, he'll be out in a moment.
DALBIAC: Fetch.
THALIA: Don't talk to me as if I'm your pet dog.
DALBIAC: Fetch.
THALIA: This one word mania of yours gets very tiresome, you know, Dalbiac.
DALBIAC: Fetch.
THALIA: (SHARPLY) Wait.
8. INT. TAROT'S H/Q.
TAROT: We need someone in authority whom we can trust.
WINTHROP: Yes, but who?
TAROT: Mr Sweet?
MR SWEET: The person to see is Brigadier Connaught of the special internal security department, I play chess with him. (MR SWEET TAKES A PIECE OF PAPER AND WRITES A SHORT NOTE) He has all the resources and facilities to handle an emergency of this kind. I suggest you go to him at once. He'll know exactly what to do. (MR SWEET HANDS THE NOTE TO DR WINTHROP) Here’s his address and a note to go with it.
TAROT: Thank you Mr Sweet. Lulli, er, is your car handy?
LULLI: Yes.
TAROT: Then, perhaps you could take Dr Winthrop down there.
SAM: Talking about nightmares -- your driving.
LULLI: Oh, you never let up, do you, Sam? Come on doctor, I'll take you to the brigadier’s office in next to no time.
WINTHROP: I don't know how to thank you, Tarot.
TAROT: Oh, don't thank me yet, let’s just hope we can get this matter cleared up without any panic and without anyone getting hurt.
9. EXT. TAROT'S H/Q. DAY.
THALIA AND DALBIAC WATCH AS LULLI AND DR WINTHROP GET INTO LULLI'S CAR AND DRIVE OFF. THEY FOLLOW IN THEIR DARK SALOON.
10. INT. TAROT'S H/Q.
SAM IS SHOWING TAROT THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR PAINTING THAT HE PREVIOUSLY SHOWED TO MR SWEET.
SAM: What do you think of it, then, eh? That's a real picture, innit? I mean you can see straight away what it's all about. Almost as if you were right there, watching it all.
TAROT: Ah, The Raven’s Tavern.
SAM: You what?
TAROT: I've been there, it’s a discotheque now.
SAM: Charming, it makes a change from a Stake House.
TAROT: Yes. That'll be better, do you want to carry on?
SAM: Yes.
TAROT NOTICES THE BOTTLE OF ANTIDOTE IS STILL ON THE TABLE.
TAROT: Oh, we forgot to give Dr Winthrop his antidote back.
TAROT RECEIVES A MENTAL IMAGE OF LULLI’S CAR TRAVELLING ALONG A COUNTRY ROAD. LULLI HAS NOTICED THAT SHE AND DR WINTHROP ARE BEING FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER CAR.
SAM: How about that then... (HE STOPS AWARE THAT TAROT'S MIND IN ELSEWHERE.)
TAROT: Lulli? She's trying to get through to me. Lulli?
(HE SEES THALIA'S CAR CLOSING IN) Lulli watch out!
LULLI’S CAR IS FORCED OFF THE ROAD.
END OF PART ONE
COMMERCIAL BREAK
PART TWO
11. INT. TAROT'S H/Q AND EXT. QUARRY. DAY.
AS THALIA AND DALBIAC GET OUT OF THE CAR, TAROT TRIES TO REGAIN CONTACT WITH LULLI.
TAROT: Lulli? Where are you? What's happened? Where are you? (HE STRUGGLES TO MAKE OUT WHAT SHE IS RELAYING TO HIM.) Concentrate, Lulli, concentrate. Yes, downs in a distance, large quarry, she's trying to pinpoint the location.
SAM: Yeah, but what's happened?
TAROT: It must be somewhere on the way to the brigadier's office, Sam get a map, south west London, surrounding area, hurry.
LULLI AND DR WINTHROP, STILL DAZED FROM THE CRASH, ARE TAKEN FROM THE CAR AT GUNPOINT BY THALIA AND HER BROTHER.
TAROT: She's being taken to a car, a dark saloon. The car's driven off.
12. INT THALIA’S CAR.
LULLI: What exactly is going on?
DALBIAC: Quiet.
LULLI: Who are you?
THALIA: I think Dr Winthrop knows.
WINTHROP: She's Thalia Smith, the assistant I was telling you about.
THALIA: And doctor, may I introduce my brother, Dalbiac. (DALBIAC DOESN’T RESPOND) Yes, I'm afraid he's not a very great conversationalist. He's a doer more than a talker, I wouldn’t antagonise him, if I were you. He rarely uses more than one word, but usually it speaks volumes, invariable I have to speak for him.
LULLI: What do you want with us?
THALIA: With you? Nothing. It was just unfortunate that you happened to be driving. It's Dr Winthrop we want, or more specifically, something he probably has in his procession, the activator for Hallucinix 23.
WINTHROP: So, it was you who stole the gas.
THALIA: Naturally.
WINTHROP: Why, Thalia?
DALBIAC: Silence.
THALIA: We didn’t go to all this trouble just to answer questions doctor.
LULLI: What's going to happen to us?
DALBIAC: Die.
THALIA: He has such a way with words, doesn't he?
TAROT ATTEMPTS CONTACT AGAIN
TAROT (V.O.): Come on Lulli, tell me where you are.
13. INT. TAROT'S H/Q. AND EXT. ROAD. DAY
SAM IS STUDYING THE MAP AND FOLLOWING TAROT'S INSTRUCTIONS.
TAROT: Keep on the left, Sam. If she can pick out the landmarks we can find out where she's being taken.
SAM: Right.
TAROT: (TAROT SEES THE LANDSCAPE AS THE CAR DRIVES ALONG THE ROAD) Hedges...green fields...trees...no houses.
SAM: It could be anywhere, Tarot, anywhere.
TAROT: Big house, set back from the road...pylons in the distance.
SAM: It's no good, it's got to be something I can identify on the map.
TAROT: Coming to a narrow bridge over a river...big house on the left...telephone box...church...turning right...houses...pub.
SAM: Pub? Oh, wait a minute. Found it, it must be here, they're travelling towards Ryegate. Is there a river running alongside the road?
TAROT: Yes.
SAM: Got 'em.
TAROT: Y junction further up.
Sam: Yeah.
TAROT: Y junction. (THE PICTURE FADES)
SAM: Yeah, you said that, go on.
TAROT: I can't.
SAM: Why not? You were going great.
TAROT: I've lost contact, something must have distracted her.
14. INT THALIA’S CAR.
THALIA: Didn't you hear what I said?
LULLI: (DISTANTLY) What?
THALIA: I asked why Dr Winthrop went to see Tarot?
WINTHROP: Actually, we're old friends.
THALIA: Oh, come on doctor, remember, I've worked for you for a long time, I know who your friends are.
WINTHROP: I tell you...
DALBIAC: No.
THALIA: It doesn't really matter now, we got everything we want.
WINTHROP: Thalia, you must know that what you are doing is insane.
DALBIAC: (MUTTERS) Insane.
THALIA: That's a word you really shouldn't use in front of my brother, especially as he has a gun.
DALBIAC: Time.
THALIA: All right, I can keep my eye on the clock, we have a little over two hours before they're due.
LULLI ATTEMPTS TO RE-ESTABLISH CONTACT TAROT.
15. INT TAROT'S H/Q.
TAROT: Two hours.
SAM: Eh?
TAROT: I can't make it out, she's trying to get through to me again, but the message is indistinct. Something about two hours. Something going to happen in two hours’ time.
SAM: (STUDYING THE MAP) Yeah, but where is she now?
TAROT: I don't know, I can't get anything else. I've lost contact again.
SAM: We don't even know which arm of that Y junction they took.
16. EXT. WINDMILL. DAY.
THE DARK SALOON COMES TO A HALT OUTSIDE THE OLD WINDMILL. THALIA GETS OUT OF THE CAR, FOLLOWED BY HER BROTHER. THE TWO PRISONERS ARE TAKEN FROM THE CAR AND MARCHED AT GUNPOINT INTO THE MILL.
17. INT. WINDMILL.
DALBIAC: There.
DALBIAC MOTIONS THE TWO PRISONERS TO STAND NEXT TO THE WINDMILL'S INNER WORKINGS.
DALBIAC: Turn.
THALIA TAKES A LENGTH OF CORD AND STARTS TO TIE UP HER TWO PRISONERS.
THALIA: This windmill is in a very remote spot, nobody could possibly hear the sound of gunshots. If you upset him, my brother won't hesitate to shoot you. He will, of course, aim for the girl, first.
WINTHROP: You intend to kill us anyway, so why not get on with it?
THALIA: All in good time. First, let’s concentrate on the activator.
WINTHROP: I haven't got it.
THALIA: As soon as you discovered that a crate of H23 had been stolen, you wouldn't have let that activator out of your sight. (SHE SEARCHES THROUGH HIS POCKETS AND DISCOVERS THE ACTIVATOR.) Ha, would you.
WINTHROP: But, I haven't got the antidote, Thalia.
THALIA: Who care about the antidote? We want to prove that the effects of Hallucinix 23 are totally...
DALBIAC: Deadly.
THALIA: Exactly.
18. INT. TAROT'S H/Q.
SAM: Don't you think it's about time we called in the law?
TAROT: And tell them what?
SAM: That Lulli and Dr Winthrop have been kidnapped.
TAROT: Well, they'd want some sort of proof, and I don't think that extra sensory perception is permitted as evidence yet.
19. INT. WINDMILL.
THALIA: That cord around your wrist is merely a form of insurance, doctor, if you struggle at all, the cord will tighten and trip the switch on the electric motor, and if the motor starts, the wheels will turn and the girl will be pulled up into the machinery on the floor above.
WINTHROP: All this for a few crates of gas, Thalia?
THALIA: Don't underestimate your brainchild, doctor, that gas is a potent weapon; then it has the built-in fear component, hasn't it?
WINTHROP: That gas was a mistake, a terrible mistake.
THALIA: Perhaps, but valuable.
WINTHROP: To whom?
THALIA: To somebody who'll be coming here in just under two hours’ time. First, I have to run some further test on the gas. I must make sure it kills in the specified time, fortunately, I have two subjects on hand.
WINTHROP: You're not going to use that stuff on us?
THALIA: Of course, isn't it a shame we don't have the antidote handy?
WINTHROP: But, Thalia, the hallucinations, the nightmares...
THALIA: All in the cause of science, doctor, our buyer will require some form of guarantee. I'll use one of you in a little while to run a final test, the other will be used as a demonstration subject, when our contact arrives.
DALBIAC: Comfortable. Speak.
LULLI: Some other time, right now I'm busy.
20. INT. TAROT'S H/Q.
TAROT IS BACK IN CONTACT WITH LULLI.
TAROT: Sam, the map.
SAM: Back on the old hotline again.
TAROT: In a remote spot, tall building, a tower maybe.
SAM: Tower, what sort of tower? Church tower, castle tower, maybe?
TAROT: No.
SAM: A tall building? A lighthouse? (TO HIMSELF) What, in the middle of Surrey? do me a favour, Sam.
TAROT: Wheels, arms, wind.
SAM: Hang about! A windmill!
TAROT: Well done, Sam.
SAM: It's bound to me marked on the map. It must be somewhere near the spot where we lost them. Gadbrook. There we are, Glanford Mill, it's the only one anywhere near.
TAROT: Right, let’s get there.
TAROT SLIPS THE ANTIDOTE INTO HIS POCKET.
SAM: Car or motorbike?
TAROT: The bike, it's outside.
THEY LEAVE.
21. EXT. ROAD. DAY.
SAM AND TAROT ON THE MOTORBIKE, FOLLOWING THE MAP, HEAD FOR THE WINDMILL.
22. INT. WINDMILL.
THE DOOR CLOSES AND LULLI AND WINTHROP ARE LEFT ALONE.
WINTHROP: Sorry about all this.
LULLI: Listen.
WINTHROP: Yes?
LULLI: I don't want to raise your hopes, but there is just a chance that help may be on its way.
WINTHROP: What!
LULLI: Ah, do me favour, will you, just don't move your hands when your excited.
WINTHROP: Oh, sorry.
LULLI: If this wheel starts moving things are going to get decidedly uncomfortable for me.
WINTHROP: But listen, how on Earth could you...
LULLI: Stage secrets, don't ask any questions, just keep your fingers crossed. (WINTHROP TRIES CROSSING HIS FIGURES AND COMES CLOSE TO TRIPPING THE SWITCH ON THE MOTOR.) No! I take that back.
WINTHROP: My god. (HE GINGERLY MOVES HIS HAND TO SLACKEN THE CORD.)
LULLI: Richard?
WINTHROP: Yes?
LULLI: These nightmares?
WINTHROP: Better not think about them.
LULLI: No, I want to know. What actually happened to you?
WINTHROP: I was transported back into the stone age. I remember there were great plants rising in the light and monsters, and giant dinosaurs, with huge claws tearing at me. The hallucinations are totally vivid, mentally you flip into another dimension. And it's real. That's the awful part. If it ever happens to you, try to remember that the awfulness can only last 23 minutes, after that...
LULLI: Curtains.
WINTHROP: Your system can no longer stand the shock.
LULLI: Now, I wish I hadn't asked.
23. EXT. ROAD. DAY.
TAROT AND SAM ARE SEARCHING FOR THE WINDMILL, THEY STOP BRIEFLY TO CHECK ON THE MAP THAT THEY ARE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, THEN RESUME THEIR JOURNEY.
24. INT. WINDMILL.
THE DOOR OPENS AND THALIA AND HER BROTHER ENTER.
THALIA: That's ready now, sorry about the makeshift gas chamber, but it will have to do. It is airtight and we can observe all our subjects’ reactions.
DALBIAC: Safely.
LULLI: Oh, he's getting quite chatty now, isn't he?
THALIA: Your sense of humour does you credit, Lulli. You'll be going in the chamber first, I hope you find that amusing, too.
DALBIAC: Laugh.
WINTHROP: Thalia, so I’m...
THALIA: All right, Dalbiac, release her.
25. EXT. ROAD. DAY.
TAROT AND SAM ARE APPROACHING THE WINDMILL, UNAWARE THAT THEY HAVE JUST TRIPPED THALIA'S ALARM SYSTEM.
26. INT. WINDMILL.
A WARNING ALARM SOUNDS IN THE MILL.
THALIA: Warning signal, someone's coming.
27. EXT. ROAD. DAY.
TAROT AND SAM DRAW CLOSER TO THE MILL.
28. INT. WINDMILL.
DALBIAC GOES TO THE WINDOW AND LOOKS OUT.
DALBIAC: People.
THALIA: How many?
DALBIAC: Two.
LULLI: Tarot!
THALIA: Your employer? But how can he have found us?
29. EXT. WINDMILL. DAY.
OUTSIDE, TAROT AND SAM SPLIT UP AND CIRCLE ROUND THE MILL. TAROT HEADS TOWARDS THE ENTRANCE.
30. INT. WINDMILL.
DALBIAC: Coming.
THALIA: (TO THE PRISONERS) One word, just one.
DALBIAC: (POINTS GUN AT LULLI AND WINTHROP) Die.
31. EXT. WINDMILL. DAY.
(TAROT TRIES TO GET A MENTAL PICTURE OF WHAT'S HAPPENING INSIDE THE MILL, THEN HE STEPS INSIDE.)
32. INT. WINDMILL.
THALIA: Tarot, I presume? Welcome, you're just in time to join the party.
TAROT: Party?
33. EXT. WINDMILL. DAY.
SAM LOOKS FOR ANOTHER ENTRANCE INTO THE MILL.
34. INT. WINDMILL. GAS CHAMBER DOOR.
DALBIAC HAS HIS GUN TRAINED ON TAROT.
THALIA: Your girlfriend was about to experience the effects of Hallucinix 23, the nightmare gas, you will now take her place.
TAROT: Glad to be of service. But, there could be a snag.
THALIA: Oh?
TAROT: It’s possible that I told the police exactly where I am. Even now, they could be surrounding the windmill.
THALIA: We would know immediately, Tarot, we have a very efficient early warning system. I think you came with a companion, my brother will see to him later. In the meantime...
LULLI: (FROM THE NEXT ROOM) Tarot!
LULLI'S CRY DISTRACTS TAROT. DALBIAC PUSHES TAROT INTO THE GAS CHAMBER AND CLOSES THE AIRTIGHT DOOR. THALIA ACTIVATES THE CANISTER OF HALLUCINIX 23. CHAMBER FILLS WITH THE DEADLY NIGHTMARE GAS. TAROT REACHES INTO FOR HIS POCKET THE ANTIDOTE. THE GAS IS ALREADY HAVING AN EFFECT. THE BOTTLE SLIPS FROM HIS FINGERS AND ROLLS ALONG THE FLOOR AND INTO THE CORNER OF THE CHAMBER. HIS LEGS BUCKLE UNDERNEATH HIM AS HE STRUGGLES TO REACH THE BOTTLE. HE FALLS TO THE GROUND HIS HAND POINTING TO THE FALLEN BOTTLE OF ANTIDOTE.
THALIA: Pleasant dreams, Tarot. (She laughs)

ACE OF WANDS - THE NIGHTMARE GAS BY DON HOUGHTON
EPISODE TWO
PART ONE
1. INT. WINDMILL. GAS CHAMBER.
HE FALLS TO THE GROUND, HIS HAND POINTING TO THE FALLEN BOTTLE OF ANTIDOTE.
THALIA: Pleasant dreams, Tarot. (She laughs)
2. INT. WINDMILL. OUTSIDE GAS CHAMBER.
DALBRIAC: Satisfactory?
THALIA: Oh yes, the gas is already having its effect on him. Tarot is as good as dead.
DALBRIAC: Dead.
THALIA: There were two of them.
DALBRIAC: Yes.
THALIA: Then go outside and get the other one.
DALBRIAC: Me? (DALBIAC LOOKS AT LULLI AND WINTHROP, BOTH STILL TIED TO THE WINDMILL'S MACHINERY.)
THALIA: Oh, they're quite safe.
WINTHROP: Thalia, the antidote is still in Tarot's flat.
THALIA: It might just as well be a million miles away, no-one could possibly get it to him in time. His body will live for another 22 minutes and 40 seconds, already his mind has started out on its long last terrifying journey.
3. EXT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
TAROT FIGHTS TO MAINTAIN HIS SANITY AS THE GAS CHAMBER DISSOLVES INTO A MAELSTROM OF STRANGE IMAGES AND SOUNDS. SLOWLY SOMETHING COALESCES, A ROW OF STRANGELY FAMILIAR HALF-TIMBERED BUILDINGS. TWO PARLIAMENTARIAN SOLDIERS APPROACH HIM.
SERGEANT: Hold still there, now on your toes.
TAROT: (TAROT NOTICES THE SIGN ON THE BUILDING OPPOSITE) The Raven’s Tavern. Sam's Picture.
SERGEANT: What did he say?
TROOPER: Something about the Tavern. And a picture.
TAROT: The gas.
TROOPER: Look at his clothes.
SERGEANT: Ah, Royalists indulges these type, popinjays all of them.
TROOPER: That's very strange garb.
SERGEANT: Do you want to die here, on the road?
TAROT: No.
SERGEANT: Then get on your feet and die like a man.
TROOPER: (PRODDING TAROT WITH THE BARREL OF HIS MUSKET) You heard the Sergeant, move.
SERGEANT: Now, that's a fine days’ work, you're the third we've caught tonight. Well, that'll be three less of King Charlie's minions to worry over. And what fancy name do you go by -- to match those fancy clothes -- Royalist?
TAROT: (CALMLY) My name is Tarot.
TROOPER: And of noble birth, no doubt.
TAROT: No, not particularly.
TROOPER: Shall we finish him here, sergeant?
SERGEANT: We would have every right. The orders state that anybody out after curfew, save General Cromwell's own soldiers, must die.
TAROT: Cromwell?
SERGEANT: And the General doesn't suffer his orders to be disobeyed.
TROOPER: So let's cut him down here and now and be done with it.
4. INT. WINDMILL.
THALIA: In two more minutes the gas will have cleared and it will be safe to go in there. I'll have to test his pulse rate, by now his heartbeat should be rising rapidly. I wonder where his unconscious mind has taken him?
LULLI: You're enjoying this, aren't you?
THALIA: It's a means to an end.
WINTHROP: What is?
THALIA: In a little while a man will be coming here, to buy some merchandise off me.
WINTHROP: The gas?
THALIA: Yes, our own government is far too squeamish to use Hallucinix 23, fortunately there are other governments, whose consciences don't trouble them quite so much. For years now people have assumed that the nuclear bomb was the ultimate weapon, but they're wrong, H23 is the final deterrent.
LULLI: Nightmare.
THALIA: (LAUGHS) Of course a nightmare, Nightmare Gas.
LULLI: Yes, I was just thinking... your brother is taking a long time, isn't he?
THALIA: When Dalbiac is on the prowl, no-one eludes him. I'm sorry, there’ll be no last-minute escape for either of you. (SHE WALKS OFF.)
5. EXT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN. NIGHT.
TAROT: Nightmare! This isn't really happening. I must remember that. Not really happening. It’s so real, so vivid. I must keep my wits about me. It's in my head.
SERGEANT: That’s enough Tarot. Or I order the trooper to run you through.
TAROT: Sergeant, a dying man is often granted a last request, isn't he?
SERGEANT: Who do you take us to be, being kind?
TAROT: General Cromwell's soldiers are honourable men, at least so I've read, err, heard.
TROOPER: Enough.
TAROT: Erm, let me see... Yes, the last meal. You know, the condemned man ate a hearty breakfast, that’s traditional.
TROOPER: He's making a fool of us.
TAROT: Oh no, I'm not, I assure you. As a matter of fact, I've brought my own food. I think I will have, (HE PRODUCES AN EGG OUT OF THIN AIR) a hardboiled egg. Perhaps (WITH ANOTHER MOVEMENT OF HIS HAND HE PRODUCES A SECOND EGG) two?
TROOPER: Witchcraft!
TAROT: No, no, it's an illusion. Light. (TAROT PERFORMS ANOTHER TRICK) It's an illusion.
TROPPER: He's a demon. What sorcery is this?
TAROT: It's called legerdemain. Now you see it (HE PERFORMS A SLIGHT OF HAND VANISHING TRICK) and now you don't.
TROOPER: Disciple of the devil. I wouldn’t have believed it, if I haven't seen it with my own eyes.
SERGEANT: This is no ordinary Royalist. He must be held for the Inquisitor General. It'll not be a sword that ends your life, warlock. It will be a flame, at the stake.
THEY MARCH TAROT INTO THE RAVEN'S TAVERN.
6. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
THE SERGEANT GRABS ONE OF THE SOLDIERS WHO'S GUARDING THE OTHER PRISONERS.
SERGEANT: Hey you, run post haste to Ludgate, inform the Inquisitor General we've caught a Royalist warlock for him.
TAROT LOOKS ROUND THE TAVERN AND SEES TWO FINELY DRESSED, AND SURPRISINGLY FAMILIAR, ROYALISTS SEATED AT A TABLE.
TAROT: Lulli! Richard!
SERGEANT: So, you know the other prisoners, eh?
TAROT: No, no, I, I thought I did.
SERGEANT: Oh well then, let me refresh your memory. This is Sir Richard Winthrop, alchemist to the King and the young woman is Lady Lillian, a court favourite.
LULLI: And your name is, sir?
TAROT: Tarot.
WINTHROP: Tarot? That has a foreign ring to it, sir.
LULLI: No matter, we are all companions in adversit, are we not?
WINTHROP: That is so.
LULLI: (PUZZLED) Now, that is very strange.
TAROT: Indeed?
TROOPER: Hey, mister serve some more drinks will you, it's thirsty work rounding up the enemies of parliament.
LULLI: You called my Lulli.
TAROT: Yes.
LULLI: But that's a private name, known only to my family and close friends.
TAROT: Well, then perhaps I'm among the later.
LULLI: You face has a familiar look.
THALIA ENTERS, SHE IS DRESSED AS A PURITAN SUPPORTER OF PARLIAMENT AND CROMWELL.
TAROT: Thalia!
SERGEANT: So, you know Mistress Thalia too, do you?
WINTHROP: Like as not he knows you too, sir.
SERGEANT: Hold your tongue. Mistress Thalia is a faithful servant to General Cromwell and the New Commonwealth.
LULLI: And chief informer to the Inquisitor General.
TAROT: Whose name is?
THALIA: It's said his enemies dare not speak his name. But you'll hear it as you perish before his vengeance.
SERGEANT: That one is to burn at the stake, Mistress Thalia, he’s a sorcerer.
TAROT: (TO LULLI AND WINTHROP) Why are you here?
LULLI: We are prisoners like yourself, sir. Being Royalist is a crime.
WINTHROP: Cavaliers to His Majesty, like yourself.
TAROT: Well, not exactly, I'm rather more of an interloper.
WINTHROP: But you fight against General Cromwell?
TAROT: It seems that I have no option.
WINHTROP: Have no fear.
LULLI: It is but a tiny setback. They say the King is already marching against Parliament.
TAROT: I've got news for you.
WINTHROP: Sir?
TAROT: Oh, erm, I, nothing, I was just musing. I wonder if you could please tell me, has the battle of Naseby been fought yet?
WINTHROP: Naseby? I've not heard of it. There was a great victory at Edgehill, Prince Rupert defeated the Roundheads and drove them from the field, our fortunes are already on the turn.
TAROT: Not if I remember my history.
LULLI: (PUZZLED) Yes, I do seem to know your face.
TAROT: (LOOKS INTO HER EYES) Lulli. Think of the name Tarot, think hard, concentrate, I've got to get a message through to you.
WINTHROP: Is that for the King?
TAROT: (TO WINTHROP) No, no. (TO LULLI) Concentrate, Lulli, concentrate.
7. INT. WINDMILL.
LULLI: Tarot!
WINTHROP: What is it?
LULLI: Strange.
WINTHROP: What?
LULLI: It's almost as though Tarot is trying to contact me. Tarot? Tarot?
TAROT: (V.O.) Concentrate.
8. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
LULLI: Yes, yes, I know that name. That face.
TAROT: Listen, I must tell you, Sam is somewhere outside, tell him that the antidote is in...
THALIA: (NOTICING THE TWO PRISONERS IN CONVERSATION.) Sergeant, they're plotting something.
SEGEANT: Plotting? (HE LAUGHS) they ought to be saying prayers.
TAROT: Thalia, how long have I got?
THALIA: Not long, not long.
9. INT. WINDMILL.
THALIA EXITS THE GAS CHAMBER.
THALIA: The gas has completely disbursed now.
WINTHROP: Tarot?
THALIA: No change, he's still alive, of course, but deep in the hallucinatory coma. It won't be long now (SHE TURNS TO LULLI) and then it's your turn.
WINTHROP: Still no sign of your brother?
10. EXT. WINDMILL. DAY.
DALBIAC IS HUNTING SAM THROUGH THE GROUNDS AROUND THE WINDMILL. SAM MAKES USE OF THE LITTLE AVAILABLE TO EVADE A GUN-WIELDING DALBIAC. HE LOOKS FOR SOMETHING TO USE AS A WEAPON. THEY CONTINUE THEIR GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE UNTIL DALBIAC FINALLY CORNERS SAM.
11. INT. WINDMILL.
THE OCCUPANTS OF THE MILL HEAR A GUNSHOT OUTSIDE.
THALIA: You see, no-one gets the better of my brother.
LULLI: Sam.
THALIA: Well, your would-be rescuer is the one person who's been spared the horrors of Hallucinix 23. At least his death was sharp and sudden, not like your friend, Tarot.
12. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
MUSKET SHOT
WINTHROP: Tarot.
TAROT: That was a musket shot.
THALIA: Someone's death was sharp and sudden, not like yours will be, Master Tarot.
LULLI: You accuse him of sorcery, it's you who's a witch.
THALIA: Hold your tongue.
THERE'S A KNOCK AT THE DOOR.
THALIA: Oh, come in. (THALIA LEAVES.)
TAROT: That really happened, that shot.
LULLI: There are many gunshots to be heard in London, these days, Tarot. One gets used to the violence and the bloodshed.
WINTHROP: General Cromwell has much to answer for.
TAROT: Listen, we must try to escape, if we stay here...
LULLI: The general will be here soon.
TAROT: Well, you heard what they called me? Sorcerer. Let's see if I can live up to my name. (TAROT STANDS UP AND CROSSES TO THE SOLDIERS GUARDING THEM.) I find this Tavern dreadfully dull, bare wooden tables, bare wooden floor. What this place needs is some excitement, don't you agree? (HE PRODUCES A SKULL OUT OF THIN AIR.)
TROOPER: Magic. (HE BACKS AWAY IN FEAR)
TAROT: Beware the power of a black magician, eh. (HE WAVES THE SKULL IN THE SOLDIERS' FACES. HE TURNS TO LULLI AND WINTHROP) Make a run for it now. Hurry. (WINTHROP IS ROOTED TO THE SPOT WITH FEAR) I said hurry. (HE PERFORMS ANOTHER TRICK.)
WINTHROP: It is magic.
TAROT: No, it's not, I assure you, it's only an illusion.
THE SOLDIERS DRAW THEIR SWORDS AND SURROUND TAROT. LULLI SCREAMS.
LULLI: Agh, Tarot. Agh, Tarot!
TROOPER: Let be done with him now, if we don't, he'll curse us all.
TAROT: No, you can’t, you can't, it's not time yet.
TROOPER: Kill him. Now!
TAROT FALLS AGAINST THE TABLE AND THE TIPS OF THE SOLDIERS' SWORDS POINT AT HIS THROAT.
END OF PART ONE
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
PART TWO
13. INT. WINDMILL.
LULLI IS RECEIVING A VAGUE IMPRESSION OF THE SOLDIERS ADVANCING ON TAROT, THEIR SWORDS POINTING AT HIS THROAT.
LULLI: Great pain. No, no you can't.
WINTHROP: Lulli, what is it?
LULLI: The...they're going to kill him.
WINTHROP: Who?
THALIA: Tarot's not dead yet.
LULLI: Wha...what happened?
THALIA: Nothing.
WINTHROP: There was a gunshot a little while ago, Dalbiac must have found Sam.
LULLI: No, no, I saw swords.
THALIA: Perhaps some of the gas has got to her.
14. EXT. WINDMILL. DAY.
AN UNCONSCIOUS DALBIAC LIES ON THE GROUND. SAM GETS ON HIS BIKE AND RIDES BACK TOWARDS THE MILL.
15. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
THE TAVERN DOOR OPENS AND A STRANGER STANDS ON THE THRESHOLD.
TROOPER: Who’s he?
WINTHROP: Look, we have a visitor.
THE STRANGER’S ARRIVAL CAUSES THE SOLDIERS TO HALT EXECUTING TAROT.
SERGEANT: Why do you stop? Do you fear that some witness may see how many Roundheads it takes to kill one Cavalier?
16. INT. WINDMILL.
LULLI: Sam!
SAM: Right first time, how's your luck?
17. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
TAROT: Sam.
SAM: Sergeant Maxted of the King's Royal Regiment of Lifeguards, at your service.
TROOPER: Another Royalist. At him.
A FIGHT ENSUES.
18. INT. WINDMILL.
SAM IS HOLDING DALBIAC'S GUN AND IS POINTING AT THALIA.
THALIA: Where's my brother?
SAM: The blond gorilla? Outside.
THALIA: You've killed him?
SAM: No, but he's having a little kip. Now just keep your distance and let's get things sorted out here. Where's Tarot, lovely?
LULLI: Sam, Sam, he's dying, in there. (SHE NODS TOWARDS THE GAS CHAMBER.)
SAM: Dying?
WINTHROP: The gas, H23...
LULLI: Sam...
WINTHROP: He only has a few minutes to live.
LULLI: Sam, leave me, see if you can do something for Tarot.
THALIA: You can do nothing without the antidote.
SAM: Antidote?
WINTHROP: That small bottle.
SAM: Oh, yeah, the last time I saw that, it was in Tarot's hand.
LULLI: He may have put it in his pocket.
WINTHROP: Go and look, Sam, hurry.
SAM: Lead the way.
THALIA: You're wasting your time.
SAM: Move.
THALIA OPENS THE DOOR OF THE GAS CHAMBER THEY BOTH GO INSIDE.
19. INT. GAS CHAMBER.
SAM KNEELS BY TAROT'S COMATOSE BODY.
SAM: Tarot!
THALIA: He can't hear you, he can't hear anyone, only the voices that speak in his nightmare.
SAM: Nothing, you mean to tell me with all this gear there's nothing...
THALIA: Nothing. Only the antidote can bring him out of that coma.
20. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
TAROT ATTEMPTS TO GET THROUGH TO SAM AS THE FIGHT CONTINUES AROUND HIM.
TAROT: Sam, the bottle's in the corner, look at my finger, I'm pointing at it. The antidote is in the corner.
SAM: Officer, this is no time for refreshment.
21. INT. WINDMILL.
LULLI: Did you find it?
SAM: No, it wasn't in his pocket.
WINTHROP: It must be still in his flat.
LULLI: We have no time to get it.
WINTHROP: Untie us Sam, will you.
SAM: Right.
22. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
TAROT: Sam, I'm right beside it.
WINTHROP: Someone else coming, It could be the general or some of the King's men.
DALBIAC, LOOKING EVERY INCH A PURITAN WITCH FINDER, ENTERS THE TAVERN.
TAROT: Dalbiac!
23. INT. WINDMILL.
BEFORE SAM CAN UNTIE LULLI OR WINTHROP, THE DOOR OF THE WINDMILL OPENS.
WINTHROP: Sam, behind you.
DALBIAC ENTERS, CARRYING THE SAME WEAPON THAT SAM KNOCKED HIM OUT WITH EARLIER.
DALBIAC: Kill.
SAM: He must have a skull like a block of concrete.
24. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
LULLI: The Inquisitor General.
THALIA: That spells the end for your friends, madam.
DALBIAC: Submit.
SAM: I fear the odds run two far against us gentlemen.
25. INT. WINDMILL.
DALBRIAC: Submit.
SAM: And get my skull cleaved by that thing, you must be joking.
DALBIAC: Submit!
THERE'S A STRUGGLE, THE MILL’S MACHINERY STARTS UP. LULLI SCREAMS AS SHE IS PULLED TOWARD THE MILL’S WHEEL.
LULLI: Sam! Arg!
WINTHROP: Lulli! Sam, quick.
LULLI: Sam.
SAM KNOCKS OUT DALBIAC AND FREES LULLI.
LULLI: Bless you, Sam.
SAM: Here make yourself useful, lovely, and untie the doc. (DALBIAC GETS UP AND LUNGES AT SAM) You just won't lie down will ya?
THALIA: (SHOUTS) I (SHE GRABS THE GUN OFF SAM.) I think that'll be quite enough, thank you.
26. INT. THE RAVEN’S TAVERN.
THALIA: They are condemned by their own actions, sire, to be executed here and now, all four of them. How say you, sire?
DALBRIAC: Guilty.
SERGEANT: And the Royalist warlock, sire?
DALBRIAC: Burned.
SERGEANT: Prepare a stake in the courtyard for the warlock. The rest will be dispatched by musket fire, against the wall.
TAROT: Lulli, listen, I can still get us out of this mess, if only I could get through to you.
DALBIAC: Silence.
THALIA: Let’s see if your magic can save you from the flames at the stake, warlock.
27. INT. WINDMILL.
THALIA: Switch off the motor, it isn't time for the signal yet.
LULLI: No, not long before your visitors are due.
THALIA: Not long, but I'm afraid, none of you will have the pleasure of meeting him. Still it'll be interesting to see how quickly Hallucinix 23 works on three subjects all at the same time. Get in there. (SHE GESTURES TO THE GAS CHAMBER) All of you.
DALBRIAC: Move.
THE THREE PRISONERS ENTER THE GAS CHAMBER, THALIA CLOSES THE CHAMBER DOOR AND TURNS TO HER BROTHER.
THALIA: Now we can get rid of the three of them, all in one go.
DALBRIAC: Good.
THALIA: I think we should use a fresh cylinder on them, bring me a new one over. We shall leave when our visitor goes, let the police try and solve the mystery of the four dead bodies in there.
DALBRIAC: Excellent.
28. INT. GAS CHAMBER.
WINTHROP IS CHECKING TAROT'S PULSE.
LULLI: Is he still alive?
WINTHROP: Yes, but only just. His pulse is very fast, he must be approaching the final stages of shock.
SAM: (AT THE OBSERVATION WINDOW) She's rigging up a fresh cylinder of that gas. Here, doc, you're a scientist, isn't there something we can do?
WINTHROP: Against the gas? Nothing much. We can prolong the agony, if you like.
LULLI: What do you mean?
WINTHOP: A damp cloth held over the mouth and nose will hold off the effects for a few seconds, but eventually it will get you.
SAM: Thanks, all the same, doc, I don't think I'll bother.
WINTHROP: If only he'd brought it with him.
LULLI: The antidote?
WINTHROP: Yes, the antidote. The antidote.
29. EXT. THE RAVEN'S TAVERN COURTYARD. NIGHT.
TAROT IS TIED TO A STAKE. ROUNDHEAD SOLDIERS CARRYING FLAMING TOUCHES ARE WAITING TO SET FIRE TO THE WOOD SURROUNDING THE STAKE. LULLI, SAM AND WINTHROP ARE STANDING AGAINST THE WALL, BEFORE THEM STANDS A LINE OF SOLDIERS, WITH MUSKETS LOADED AND READY.
SERGEANT: Take aim.
THE SOLDIERS LEVEL THEIR MUSKETS AT THE PRISONERS AND TAKE AIM. TAROT MAKES A FINAL EFFORT TO CONTACT LULLI.
TAROT: Lulli, do you hear me? The bottle of antidote has rolled into the corner, look at my finger, follow the direction it points.
30. INT. GAS CHAMBER.
LULLI IS RECEIVING TAROT'S MESSAGE, BUT IT IS VERY FAINT.
TAROT: (V.O.) Concentrate, the bottle of antidote is in the corner, look at my finger, look where it's pointing, try Lulli, try!
LULLI: Tarot. Finger.
WINTHROP: What.
SAM: Don't interrupt her, doc, I think she's making contact with Tarot.
WINTHROP: But, he's unconscious.
TAROT: Yes, Lulli.
LULLI: Bottle...antidote...finger...pointing.
31. INT. GAS CHAMBER.
THALIA MAKES FINAL CHECK OF THE GAS CYLINDER.
THALIA: Nearly ready.
DALBRIAC: Ahh.
32. EXT. THE RAVEN'S TAVERN COURTYARD. NIGHT.
SERGEANT: Ready now, sire.
DALBRIAC: Good.
TAROT: The bottle of antidote is in the corner, look where my finger points, look.
33. INT. GAS CHAMBER.
LULLI: Yes, Tarot, your finger, pointing, yes, yes, (SUDDENLY CLEARER) the bottle of antidote...in the corner.
SAM: He must have brought it with him then.
LULLI: Have a look in that corner. Hurry.
SAM: Hang about.
LULLI: Hurry.
SAM: (SAM FINDS THE BOTTLE.) Yes, it... it’s under here.
WINTHROP: Give it to me, Sam. Lulli find a syringe, there must be one here, somewhere.
34. EXT. THE RAVEN'S TAVERN COURTYARD. NIGHT.
DRUM ROLL. THE FLAMING TORCHES ARE LOWERED TOWARDS THE WOOD SURROUNDING THE STAKE.
TAROT: Hurry Lulli, hurry.
WINTHROP: Have strength, Cavalier and bear yourself like a true soldier of the king.
35. INT. OUTSIDE GAS CHAMBER.
DALBIAC IS MONITORING THE PRISONERS THROUGH THE OBSERVATION WINDOW.
DALBIAC: Hurry.
THALIA: Why? They'll not be going anywhere.
DALBIAC: Look.
THALIA LOOKS THROUGH THE OBSERVATION WINDOW, JUST IN TIME TO SEE WINTHROP ADMINISTER THE ANTIDOTE TO TAROT.
36. EXT. THE RAVEN'S TAVERN COURTYARD. NIGHT.
DRUM ROLL
SAM: Farewell my friends and god save the king.
WINTHROP: Amen to that.
THE ANTIDOTE TAKES EFFECT, TAROT IS FREE OF THE BONDS TYING HIM TO THE STAKE.
TAROT: Run my friends, run for your lives.
LULLI: Come, you heard what the gentlemen said.
TAROT'S LAUGHTER ECHOES AROUND THE TAVERN'S COURTYARD AS HE LEAVES THE NIGHTMARE WORLD AND RETURNS TO REALITY.
TROOPER: Sire! He's gone, he’s burned before our eyes. Now he’s…he’s...
DALBIAC: Warlock.
37. INT. GAS CHAMBER.
TAROT REVIVES.
SAM: Tarot, it worked.
LULLI: Oh, Tarot, thank goodness.
TAROT: Found it then?
WINTHROP: Yes, but only just in time, 23 minutes.
TAROT: That's very interesting, Lulli, that means we can keep in contact, even when my subconscious...
SAM: Hey, I shouldn't hang the flags out just yet. Look.
HE POINTS TO THE OBSERVATION WINDOW, WHERE THALIA AND DALBIAC ARE GLOWERING IN AT THEM FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GLASS.
38. INT. OUTSIDE GAS CHAMBER.
THALIA: They had the antidote all the time. It was a trick, Dalbiac.
DALBIAC: Death.
THALIA: Yes.
DALBIAC: Now!
THALIA MOVES TO ACTIVATE THE NEW CANISTER OF THE NIGHTMARE GAS.
Titles Music.
