I have a mp3 copy of The Hastings Flyer - robbed that i downloaded from a Goon Show site ( I forget which one). I can confirm this does exist, I just got it. Before this I encountered a Pevensey Bay Disaster mislabelled and two vintage goons episodes mislabeled as series 4 episodes. Theres loads like that unfortunately.

Each to his own I guess (you really ought to preface your remarks with "I think"). agreed -- though only because i wasn't sure if ben was expressing an opinion about the entertainment merits of the ep, or about the technical quality of the recording being used!

If anyone needs a definitive list of what's out there. I have it. I've spent the last five years restoring the shows from every available source. The list I have includes running times, versions, and quality. If you want it, please let me know here.

The Red Fort's a classic (on EMI Comedy "The Goons" Vol 2 along with The Missing No 10 Downing Street and Robin Hood An His Merry Men)
"And don't forget to put the cat out - he's a British Spy" "You rotten swine - my disguise was perfect until you said that! (Points to Mum's old drawers painted to look like tabby cat.)

I'd love to see a list of this sort posted here ... and it would probably answer a *lot* of questions for people. I'm still picking my way through all the different versions and trying to establish what went out when ... All the best Andrew

Milligan's humour polarises opinion. If you don't get it straight away, likely you never will. I like the Goons in theory but its rare that I find myself rolling around in hysterics when I actually listen to them. I imagine the rather self-indulgent in-jokes and boys' club atmosphere can be a bit off-putting to some.
I'd like to hear some of Milligan's Omar Khyaam Show (and Bentine's Round the Bend, for that matter) but haven't been able to find any in the usual places - can anyone recommend it?
I can't abide the Navy Lark but it has its champions. A rather bland sitcom with comic strip characterisations. IMHO, of course!

Hello Andrew, just on this matter...I understand that a considerable amount of rare audio material featuring Peter Sellers surfaced some time ago, dating back to I think 1948, that came from Sellers' own home recording efforts. Is it at all possible that Sellers also taped some of the missing Goon Shows? I heard a rumour that he burnt some of the tapes he made (of episodes now missing) just before his death in 1980, so....well, I'm just asking if that avenue has been explored. Peter was a gadget fanatic, and if anyone had the gear and the will to record the Crazy People shows and Series 1-3 of The Goons off air, it was him.

The GSPS were given copies of Sellers' home recordings. They were supposed to make the recordings available to members, but last I heard they were still hoarding them.
Sellers did have recordings of old Goon Shows but he destroyed them, or an ex wife destroyed them, I forget the exact details now.

(17/02/53) The Story of Civilization 16. (24/02/53) The Search for the Bearded Vulture 17. (03/03/53) The Mystery of the Monkey's Paw 18. (10/03/53) The Mystery of the Cow on the Hill 19. (17/03/53) Where Do Socks Come From? 20. The Man Who Never Was (v.0)* The was who never man, notable for Bluebottle's first appearance as bluebottle, sitting on the roof of an expensive club 'What are you reading?' 'A Fly Paper'. Doesn't rely too heavily on sound effects. A pretty standard War Spoof of a film of a real event.** 1/2 21. (07/04/53) The Building of the Suez Canal 22. (14/04/53) The De Goonlies 23. (21/04/53) The Conquest of Space 24. (28/04/53) The Ascent of Mount Everest 25. (05/05/53) The Story of the Plymouth Hoe Armada * (03/06/53) Coronation edition
Fourth Series
1. (02/10/53) The Dreaded Piano Clubber 2. (09/10/53) The Man Who Tried to Destroy London's Monuments 3. (16/10/53) The Ghastly Experiments of Dr. Hans Eidelburger The first third of this show (focusing on the experiments themselves) is vaguely confused with almost as much screaming as actural plot. The Rest of the Show, however is concerned with an attempt to move Mount Everest to England for some reason that seemed ever so relevent at the time.** 4. (23/10/53) The Building of Britain's First Atomic Cannon 5. (30/10/53) The Gibraltar Storys 6. (06/11/53) Through the Sound Barrier in an Airing Cupboard 7. (13/11/53) The First Albert Memorial to the Moon 8. (20/11/53) The Missing Bureaucrat 9. (27/11/53) Operation Bagpipes 10. (04/12/53) The Flying Saucer Mystery 11. (11/12/53) The Spanish Armada 12. (18/12/53) The British Way 13. (26/12/53) The Giant Bombardon * 14. (01/01/54) Ten Thousand Fathoms Down in a Wardrobe 15. (08/01/54) The Missing Prime Minister A franticly paced romp around England in search of 10 downing street, it's quite obvious to see where the padding to allow for the regulars has been added but that does not detract from the quality of the show*** 16. (15/01/54) Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Crun 17. (22/01/54) The Mummified Priest * 18. (29/01/54) The History of Communications 19. (05/02/54) The Kippered Herring Gang 20. (12/02/54) The Toothpaste Expedition 21. The Case of the Vanishing Room * 22. (22/02/54) The Great Ink Drought of 1902 23. (01/03/54) The Greatest Mountain in the World Interesting referal back to a comment in the second half of a series 4 show when Mount Everest is sunk under water, anyway it seems that the tallest mountain in the world IS underwater so Ned and his crew of many (several of whom are people) go to climb down to the bottom of it so they can climb to the top, slightly convoluted and nothing special.** 1/2 24. (08/03/54) The Collapse of the British Railway Sandwich System 25. (15/03/54) The Silent Bugler * 26.(22/03/54) Western Story 27. (29/03/54) The Saga of the Internal Mountain 28. (05/04/54) The Invisible Acrobats 29. (12/04/54) The Great Bank of England Robbery 30. (19/04/54) The Siege of Fort Knight * Short insert in 'Christmas Crackers' * (11/06/54) Archie in Goonland * (31/08/54) The Starlings
Fifth Series
1. (28/09/54) The Whistling Spy Enigma * The Hungarian Rhapsody (Translated into English of course) allows a good conversation between Eccles and Henry, but otherwise unremarkable.** 1/2 2. (05/10/54) The Lost Gold Mine (of Charlotte) 3. (12/10/54) The Dreaded Batter-Pudding Hurler (of Bexhill-on Sea) * Despite the lack of Grytpipe in a proper evil role (He hardly befits being a Policeman) it is a very enjoyable romp from Bexhill to a small boat in the Ocean. (Oh, yes, though not named, Moriaty must be the french pudding hurler)*** 1/2 4. (19/10/54) The Phantom Head Shaver (of Brighton) * Can you deduce who the phantom is, Constabule Neddie is blinder than a blind thing in blind land though all the other characters give solid performances. And watch out for Sellers' McMillan impression.** 1/2 5. (26/10/54) The Affair of the Lone Banana * The low point of Series 5, the plot is not exactly bad, The cast just give the impression that it's all part of a routine and almost a bit of a strain.* 6. (02/11/54) The Canal 7. (09/11/54) Lurgi Strikes Britain * An enjoyable romp with a brief appearence from the wonder singer Adolphus Spriggs (Payed by the fiend Grytpipe to affect Lurgi). With just a touch of satire about health scares (BSE anyone?) this is one of the few episodes to keep the satirical as well as zany edge.*** 8. (16/11/54) The Mystery of the Marie Celeste (Solved) * A historical seafaring story (matey) with plenty of bollards. And I hope you noticed a destinct drop in the price of the reward (Even announcers have to make a living). There is time for impressive but not overlong routines from all the regulars while also maintaning a decent plot. Good, nae Excellent Stuff.**** 9. (23/11/54) The Last Tram (from Clapham) * Relive the golden days of Trams, or not.... the trams are all closed, someone's run of with the petty cash and there's still one tram out..... (cue dramatic music) this is a job for Neddie Seagoon, The tram remains down a tunnel, the only problem, the driver (Mr Crun) refuses to go without a proper ceremony, etc etc etc. A fun episode with dongler attatchments.*** 10. (30/11/54) The Booted Gorilla (found?) 11. (07/12/54) The Spanish Suitcase * A Swashbuckling tale of treachery, treachery, mistaken identity oh yes and a bit of treachery thrown in. So, who does have the money, honest Wal knows, but he's not saying.*** 12. (14/12/54) Dishonoured, or The Fall of Neddie Seagoon 13. (21/12/54) Forog 14. (28/12/54) Ye Bandit of Sherwood Forest * 15. (04/01/55) Nineteen-Eighty-Five (v.1) * 'Blitish Ablassador' Ned Seagoon becomes inviegeled into blowing up the fiendish headquarters of fiendish General Kash Mai Chek. Good fun and well paced. Don't forget to knock 6,000 times, but... it's always next door in China.** 1/2 16. (11/01/55) The Case of the Missing Heir 17. (18/01/55) China Story 18. (25/01/55) Under Two Floorboards -- A Story of the Legion * Neddie: My Brothers took Medicine Eccles: We were ill. But still holds it's own as a pastiche story.*** 19. (01/02/55) The Missing Scroll 20. (08/02/55) Nineteen-Eighty-Five (v.2) 21. (15/02/55) The Sinking of Westminster Pier * Notes: Written in one day to replace 'Six Ingots of Leadenhall Street' as a robbery took place similar to that described in the story and it was decided to change the show (The Radio Times was therefore wrong in it's information, much to Wallace's disbelief) A tribute to the quick thinking Skill of Milligan & Sykes, not necessarily the best of the series but by no means the worst. Some obvious cliche's used (Bloodnock rescing Neddie, taking his money then throwing him back) but we won't hold that against it.*** 22. (22/02/55) The Fireball of Milton Street 23. (01/03/55) The Six Ingots of Leadenhall Street 24. (08/03/55) Yehti * Slightly confused chase through the Yorkshire moors, an attempt to inject a bit of spookiness into the show (WooooooOOoooOhh) via the evil mind-bending Yehti that is not a complete success. Still, it's nice to know Henry has a railway line in his back room (Gosh, that's worth remembering for some cunning trivia quizz or another... if only I could be bothered to write one). A bit of a mess all things considered.** 25. (15/03/55) The White Box of Great Bardfield * The epic story of one Neddie Seagoon's attempt to move a box of snow/water/air around the world for varying reasons while at the same time prove to us all that he is 'NED, SON OF HOUDINNI'. Despite a vaguely nightmurial feel to it, still a good example of the period.** 1/2 26. (22/03/55) The End
Sixth Series
1. (20/09/55) The Man Who Won the War In which Ned Seagoon tries to work his ticket and is offered a discharge once the war is finished, good fun.... and watch out for cardboard cut out of the UK. See also my Book 'The Man Who Won the War' Priced thruppence.*** 2. (27/09/55) The Secret Escritoire Fairly simple variation on a standard theme, only this time Moriaty and Grytpipe's plan involves shrinking Neddie in order to sell miniture clothes (or something). The plot gets a little lost in places making it one of the more confused shows of the series.** 3. (04/10/55) The Lost Emperor * 4. (11/10/55) Napoleon's Piano * A franticly paced story of kipper spearing, Footo-the-wonder-foot-grower wielding, piano snatching exitement, capped with 'I talk to de trees, dat's why dey put me away'**** 5. (18/10/55) The Case of the Missing CD Plates * A piano, a pair of bagpipes (Nickel plated of course) a 100 foot drop and a steamroller all contrive to get Neddie sueing Grytpipe for wanton Piano dropping, but can the fiend Thynne attatch CD plates to the piano, especially as the special bonded warehouse in Bond Street is guarded by two stalwart guards....... Another fine story.*** 6. (25/10/55) Rommel's Treasure * Private Eccles mutineying against himself is not enough to save an averagely average war story. Not bad but not good.** 7. (01/11/55) Foiled by President Fred Gas Meter Inspector Seagoon is on the case once again, this time in South America (Balham Gas board is expanding buddie). Of course it does not end there very soon he's involved with revolutionary things and all sorts of others. An excellent bit of logic flicking with the entire cast with the red bag/blue bag routine.** 1/2 8. (08/11/55) Shangri-La Again * 9. (15/11/55) The (Great) International Christmas Pudding * We Swash and we Buckle and we Buckle and we Swash, a well paced adventure resulting in the unfortunate digestion of the aforementioned pudding by a certain Welsh Steamer called Ned.*** 10. (29/11/55) The Sale of Manhattan 11. (06/12/55) The Terrible Revenge of Fred Fu-Manchu 12. (13/12/55) The Lost Year 13. (20/12/55) The Greenslade Story * Winds Light to Variable, the story of how to be a BBC announcer, heaped with satire (of the time) some of which sadly looses it's poignency nowadays but it still remains a sharp humourous story. Though I feel that nowadays people like Eccles are more likely to be Director General.*** 1/2 14. (27/12/55) The Hastings Flyer -- Robbed 15. (03/01/56) The Mighty Wurlitzer * 16. (10/01/56) The Raid of the International Christmas Pudding 17. (17/01/56) Tales of Montmartre * Oho-ho-ho-ho, garlic-ridden sillyness, with the inclusion of a Woman (oOoooOoohhhh) in the inestimable person of Charlotte Mitchell a pathetic plot about firewood and a very tall Easel is more than made up for by near perfect performances by the entire cast.*** 18. (24/01/56) The Jet-Propelled Guided NAAFI * The rating I give this show bears no relation to anything except this one line. Eccles:I Resign Seagoon:Why? Eccles: I dunno It's also a standard Good (Neddie, Bluebottle etc.) Verses Evil (Grytpipe & Moriaty) plot.**** 19. (31/01/56) The House of Teeth 20. (07/02/56) Tales of Old Dartmoor (**clips exist on BBC 1922 - 1972) Satisfactory, well paced and fun, convicts running all over the place and ghastly concert party jokes'Moriaty, I've been made a Peer' 'Good, I'll go down the end of it and start a concert party' Another one with implications for today.*** 21. (14/02/56) The Choking Horror 22. (21/02/56) The Great Tuscan Salami Scandal * This episode is remembered mainly for the fact it was performed without an Orchestra or Musicians which is a shame, the plot is quite satirical and the performances are solid, though I suppose the first full renditioning of 'I'm Walking Backwards for Christmas' is worth at least....*** 3/4 23. (28/02/56) The Treasure in the Lake (aka The Treasure Of Loch Lomond)* Released on Audio tape and announced as 'The Treasure of Loch Lomand' though referred to in the Radio Times and official records as 'The Treasure in the Lake A good well paced episode, starting off slowly then increasing to a (literally) frantic tumolt at the end. There is the vaguest feeling that the the listner is being deprived of some joke, but not as badly as in some other episodes.** 1/2 24. (06/03/56) The Fear of Wages * 25. (13/03/56) Scradje * Gas stoves, more of footo, the wonder boot exploder and a delightfully convoluted plot all combine in this epic tale, complete with strange garlic-tinged wibble from Moriaty.**** 26. (20/03/56) The Man Who Never Was (v.1) 27. (03/04/56) The Pevensey Bay Disaster * When TPBD was originally set to be broadcast there was a severe train crash at Didcot and the story was replaced with China Story from the previous sereis, the story was slightly changed and retitled THF, TPBD was eventually re-shown 03/04/56. * The Missing Christmas Parcel -- Post Early for Christmas (27/11/55) The Goons Hit Wales Five min insert for St David's day China Story Special for national radio show. * The Goons Hit Wales * (29/08/56) China Story
Seventh Series
1. (04/10/56) The Nasty Affair at the Burami Oasis* An Excellent show all round, all circles around Fred Touche (Ned) and his Battleship, (HMS Thespas) taking Burami Oasis in order to save the fort so the fort people can beat the naughty arabs at a sinful football match. The pace is near perfect and the show probably has the highest LPM (Laughs per minute) than any other.**** 2. (11/10/56) Drums Along the Mersey * 3. (18/10/56) The Nadger Plague * 4. (25/10/56) The MacReekie Rising of '74 The cast struggle manfully on without Milligan and the result damn nearly works, suffice to say it's not one of the best but then, nowhere near the worst either. It is excellently scripted and Chisholme acts his Haggis-ridden best.*** (for effort) 5. (10/11/56) The Spectre of Tintagel * 6. (15/11/56) The Great Bank Robbery * A plethora of silly accents and a bass drum race are the most notable features of this episode, though it contains valuable banking advice for the modern man 'Always keep your wearwithall, the monies, in a matress.*** 7. (22/11/56) Personal Narrative 8. (29/11/56) The Mystery of the Fake Neddie Seagoons* 9. (05/12/56) What's My Line? 10. (13/12/56) The Telephone 11. (20/12/56) The Flea * The Diary of Samuel Peypes by any other name would surely be called the flea? An amusing historical pastiche story with more basis in fact than some of the other historical efforts. The plot is lost for some of the regulars to get a look in and Moriaty has particular trouble with Owwwwwwwww*** 1/2 12. (26/12/56) Six Charlies in Search of an Author Self-referential fun, the plot goes pretty much out of the window as soon as the characters get hold of the typewriter, Min is able to beat Henry up to the top of a building by simply skipping a few pages, Neddie Pawns himself and Bluebottle runs of with Neddie's Darling (though this does not show his good taste). Totally manic.*** 13. (03/01/57) Emperor of the Universe 14. (10/01/57) Wings Over Dagenham * Recreates the incredible exitement of the first flight ever. Bluebottle gets the best line in the show Seagoon:Calling b4, Calling b4 Bluebottle: Yes, my capatain Seagoon: Why didn't you answer me b4 Bluebottle: Cos I didn't hear you, before Stupid word games, what the Goons are all about.*** 15. (17/01/57) The Rent Collectors * Rent Collector Seagoon has to collect rent from the Manour. A simple enough task... not when the combined Yokel population of several cliches are holding you back, Ned eventually gets threatened with hanging but continues his task anyway. Original script and solid performances. ** 3/4 16. (24/01/57) Shifting Sands * Another fort is in trouble and Ned must bring it a Union Jack to save face. However, despite the plot, Jack Train performs perfectly as Chinstrap and the dialogue between him and Bloodnock is near perfect in its execution. A good show despite a plethora of poultry- related puns.*** 17. (31/01/57) The Moon Show 18. (07/02/57) The Mysterious Punch-up-the-Conker * 19. (14/02/57) The Sleeping Prince Because of the international situation of the time the episode (which depicts a Latin- American uprising) was put back to the 14/02. 20. (21/02/57) Round the World in Eighty Days 21. (28/02/57) Insurance, the White Man's Burden In spite of an epic sounding title the result is a typical G-T tricks Ned story though it is particularly notable for the scene on the beach with a drowning Eccles and Ned trying to set fire to the English Channel*** 22. (07/03/57) The Africa Ship Canal 23. (14/03/57) Ill Met by Goonlight * 24. (21/03/57) The Missing Boa Constrictor 25. (28/03/57) The Histories of Pliny the Elder * In a Historical Mood, the scene is Ancient England (and Wales) with much Times-letter- writing screaming and shaving Neddiful Ned is bound for the Colloseum in Rome, but does not want to be strangled by a Gorilla, he escapes and meets up with Brittanicus Bloodnockus 'You know they say Ceasers wife is beyond suspicion.. well I soon put a stop to all that nonsense'**** * (rec02/12/56) Robin Hood * (25/12/56) Operation Christmas Duff * * (22/08/57) The Reason Why *
Eighth Series
1. (30/09/57) Spon * 2. (07/10/57) The Junk Affair * 3. (14/10/57) The Burning Embassy * 4. (21/10/57) The Great Regent's Park Swim 5. (28/10/57) The Treasure in the Tower * 6. (16/12/57) The Great British Revolution * 13. (23/12/57) The Plasticine Man * 14. (30/12/57) African Incident * 15. (06/01/58) The Thing on the Mountain 16. (13/01/58) The String Robberies * 17. (20/01/58) The Moriarty Murder Mystery * 18. (27/01/58) The Curse of Frankenstein * 19. (03/02/58) The White Neddie Trade * 20. (10/02/58) Ten Snowballs that Shook the World * 21. (17/03/58) The Man Who Never Was (v.2) 22. (24/02/58) World War One* On the faded manuscript I see a rip-roaring tale of the war, , fear of work from all angles and patriotic volunteer Ned ("What made you join?" "Two Military Policemen and an Armed Escort")*** 23. (03/03/58) The (Great)Spon Plague * Moriaty and Grytpipe need money, so why not create a plague? borrowing heavily from Lurgi Strikes Britain this is one of the poorest shows, relying too heavily on sound effects for laughs * 1/2 24. (10/03/58) Tiddleywinks * 25. (17/03/58) The Evils of Bushey Spon * 'You act too much' excellent pastiche of beurocratic thingeys made all the more fun by a completely surreal appearence by A.E Matthews. Ninth Series
1. (03/11/58) The Sahara Desert Statue 2. (10/11/58) I Was Monty's Treble * 3. (17/11/58) The Million Pound Penny * Odd show, seems more like a Series 4 show, with one short sketch then a music break and then quite a strange effort about Miser Ned, all a bit of a mess really** 4. (24/11/58) The Pam's Paper Insurance Policy 5. (01/12/58) The Mountain Eaters * 6. (08/12/58) The Childe Harolde Rewarde * 7. (15/12/58) The Seagoon Memoirs * Ned's writing his memoirs, lord knows he's had enough adventures to write about. However his piano (plus notation) has been taken in lie of the fine for sleeping on the Queen's highway (hirror of horrors). Anyway, it gets set fire to so Neddie gets kidnapped and all sorts of other Shenanigans on the great wossname that is the Goon Show.** 1/2 8. (22/12/58) Queen Anne's Rain * 9. (20/01/59) The Call of the West * Hern hern hern, an American-type story with much spitting and hern, the plot is minimal to allow for much American-type mickey-takes. Still, the characters all perform well and the spittoon sound affects could save any episodes (And they're not overused) and Hern.** 1/2 13. (26/01/59) Dishonoured -- Again 'Constable, how would you like to join the River Police?' Neddie has a job (what!) at a bank no less, he plans to steal all the gold but it outwitted by the fiend Grytpipe Thynne. If proof was needed that the series was not going downhill then this is it.*** 14. (02/02/59) The Scarlet Capsule Seagoon: Minardor? Minardor?, Min Min Min Min Min Minnie: Yes yes, yes,yes yes' Great fun, a pastiche of Quatermass and the Pit but catches the same feeling as any turn of the Century Sci Fi show (could just as easily be turned into a War of The Worlds spoof) it also manages to fit the regulars in without sacrificing too much plot.**** 15. (09/02/59) The Tay Bridge * 16. (16/02/59) The Gold Plate Robbery* 17. (23/02/59) The Fifty Pound Cure *

TS = released by Transcription Services. PG = not previously released by TS but reissued by TS as ‘Pick of the Goons’ (then followed by release number)
The BBC Transcription Services recorded Goon Shows for issue to overseas radio stations. These recordings were usually two minutes shorter than the original BBC broadcast as topical references and risqué jokes were removed. Whilst the TS episodes remain with the BBC, many of the unedited, original broadcasts have been 'lost', and it is these missing recordings that the Treasure Hunt is interested in discovering.

BBC Radio Collection Series of Reissues
These are great times, folks! BBC has been reissuing Goon Shows at a steadily increasing pace since 1988. As of December 2000, there are eighteen double-cassette/double-CD sets available, each containing four shows. And what is truly exciting is that they are completely reconstituted and remastered by free-lance sound engineer/genius Ted Kendall. Kendall has gone back to all available sources to create shows that contain all the possible lines cut by the various producers of the various versions previously broadcast--UK original, Transcription Service version, Transcription Service Reissue series version, and more. In many cases he brings us shows that are more complete than ever heard before.
The only problem is that Old Auntie has been wildly inconsistent in formats and naming conventions for the series. Consider this:
* Titles: The first release was titled simply "Goon Show Classics." Then came Goon Show Classics 2 through 8. Then they switched to names instead of numbers. The next four, which would have been 9-12, were instead called "Goon Show Classics: '[installment title].'" After that the word "Classics" was dropped, and subsequent sets have been titled "The Goon Show: '[installment title].'" Goon Show Classics 1-10 were originally released as shows not restored by Kendall, just redubs (and not always particularly well done redubs) of existing tapes. Later, Kendall went back and restored this series.
* Formats: The first ten were released in England in double-cassette format only. But in Australia they were released on double-CDs. The edits were the same, but the sound quality of the CDs was in general better, with the CD version ranging from slightly to substantially superior to cassette in most cases. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where to buy them? In Great Britain, at any record store. In the United States, look for an HMV record store or contact the Continental Shop in California, which has the BBC and EMI Goon tapes and CDs, also the early Goon films (Zed Men; Mukkinese Battle Horn; Running, Jumping...). They do mail order via credit card, and if you tell them you saw it here, they'll send you a free copy of their comedy catalog (normally $3).
The Continental Shop 1619 Wilshire Blvd Santa Monica, CA 90403 tel. 310-453-8655 email continshop@aol.com
For the rest of us, there is the BBC World Service Shop at Bush House in London. It takes orders by fax or phone and accepts major international credit cards.
Other stores in England that have web pages and can do mail order via credit card are HMV; The Goon Show Section at INTABS, the Internet Talking Bookshop; Amazon.co.uk (formerly Bookpages); and the Interactive Music & Video Shop.
Beware of the various EMI cassettes and CD reissues of Goon Shows. With few exceptions, they are still recycling the shows they released on LP long ago. These recordings have had the Ellington and Geldray spots and the playout music excised; and even many of the orchestral links have been removed. At first, I thought this had been done to fit the recording on an LP; later, I learned that it was done to avoid paying royalties to composers and musicians!

For the record, I was actively involved with GSPS when Sellers' ex-mother-in-law (ie Lynn Frederick's mum) agreed to hand the recordings for permanent safe-keeping to the GSPS - they were actually hidden away by Barry Hill who promised to make copies of the recordings, some on lacquer disk and others on reel to reel tapes, using his (apparent) sound restoration skills at ORCA HQ in Ohio. Sadly, only a few of the Peter Sellers extracts from early appearances on Radio & TV have been released on cassette into the ORCA and GSPS libraries - Barry died just about a year ago, leaving his purpose-built sound archive in a total mess, physically and financially, forcing a quick sale to an American dealer. So it's unlikely that anything else of interest will ever be retrieved.
