Not a great deal, apparently. A handful of late 50's shows, several transcription discs from the 60's, plus most of the SC sessions by The Beatles have been bootlegged in excellent quality, and of course the 5th birthday edition (5/10/63) exists in it's entirety. 'The Saturday Club Story' broadcast on radio two several years back seemed to use familiar TS disc tracks, but did include a few Beatles tracks that hadn't been bootlegged (24/8/63). 'The Friday Rock Show' in the late 70's/early 80's and then 'The Saturday Rock Show' in the late 80's/early 90's used to have an 'archive session' every week with sets by The Who, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones, Cream, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers etc., and many of these seem to have come from the show itself, as many had intro's cut/faded/sudden starts, so who knows??. Someone, somewhere............

I have heard through a reliable source that the former producer of Sat Club (who was with the show from the outset.. Oct 58?) diligently kept recordings of many of the early shows. A few years ago EMI were due to release a CD entitled The Shadows at the BBC. As so few early recordings existed at the corporation they attempted to negotiate for release of the much sought after early material (59-61) which was, and still is, in the hands of the former producer. However negotiotations have stalled (the usual financial stumbling block as usual i hear) and the whole project has been shelved.
Can anyone clarify what exactly exists in his collection??
Apparantly a few of these early Sat Club Shads tracks were played at the annual Shadowmania event this year. They were perfect audio recordings with great clarity of sound.

more privatly held recordings from producers etc, there must be much more from these sources, most people want a record of their work and so little has turned up that either I'm wrong or they're unaware of what they have or don't want to let on to what they have.

Exactly! Dave Clarke is a case in point. He wont let anyone in on his collection....even letting on what he has and hasnt got. Apparantly it was hoped to bring out a video this year to celebrate the 40th! anniversary of Ready Steady Go. They appealed to Dave Clarke who owns most of this material but once again the project has been shelved because not enough cash was on the table.

so DC either has a lot or not much, his silence will cause wild rumours (eg he has every copy of ... or something) listening to sounds of the sixties, there is a fair number of S-C recordings on over time and all of good quality sadly the pirate radio recordings are not so good although on the "pauls radio museum"http://www.paulplu.demon.co.uk/radio/index.htm it was interesting to hear kenny everet and dave cash in what was a prototype show for most of todays music radio
luckily for us the method of audio tape manufacture up to the early 70s was different to the 70s onwards it tend to last much longer and is of superior quality so the earlier recordings will still have a few more years left in them, I have audio recordings dating from 1960/61 and they are as good as the day they were made
ps saturday club finfished in early 69 about jan/feb

I too have a few songs from early Sat Club and many many more from Radio Lux from the 1960-1963 days. (mostly Me and My Shadows 15 minute shows (Cliff) of variable quality. It would be nice to compare with u William what we both have. I agree that people like D.C. could at least message this forum and lay out what and does not exist in thier collections. What harm could that do? At least it will scotch endless rumours and red herrings generated by over zealous but sincerely minded people contributing to these boards. It does appear some hoarders of archive film derive a warped satisfaction from knowing they have something which others will never ever get to see.

Sounds of the Sixties last Saturday broadcast a version of the Bee Gees song Spicks and Specks.
It was performed by Status Quo and is on a castle cd.
This originally came from saturday Club.

I don't think they like loosing control of what they have they don't like the idea that other people can do what they want with what was theirs and swap give or sell to their own advantage or even take the credit for finding or returning it when they did no such thing, better to keep it to yourself and stop these people getting it in the first place, any dealing with these people has to be done carefully and with respect otherwise they clam up, it is difficult and some do get a thrill in knowing that they are the only owner of the only copy, these are probably never going to give up what they have. as far as DC is concerned it may be that he consideres the recordings to be his property(legally they are) and so money(lots) would need to change hands, but it is a avenue worth persuing perhaps through the DC5 fan club(perhaps even one of these club memebers has something) or his agent.

I take your point about people wanting to keep what is legally theirs, but if all we want to know is what material they actually have and what they don't, then I can't see what harm it does to anyone. The one sticking point I see time and again (having only recently discovered this site) is having to guess and speculate as to what exists. It would not cost or lose people like Dave Clark one single penny to simply share INFORMATION with us.

I can't see what harm it does either, but they have their own reasons I surpose, maybe DC doesn't see why he should give people lists of his own private property, who knows, but the thought of DC having 20 or so TOTP is frustrating. Perhaps he doesn't wan't to encourage us, keep quiet long enough and maybe we'll all go away. He would have to trust us first. If however he does have complete episodes and he and the bbc could come to some arrangement he could make some money out of it and we can see them

I know it is v hard to find DC cd's, he owns the copyright to all the cd5 recordings, I managed to get a couple of albums from the states years ago & they had stickers saying " not to be imported to the UK". his fancub site were asking people to email him, but as he never replies I guess the only thing to do is wait!
