Does anything survive of 1970s radio 1 presenter Tom Browne, and what happened to him?. He had that type of velvety voice that should have kept him working for years in voice overs at least ! However after a few years on the top forty seem to just disappear.

I don't know if this helps but I found this on RadioRewind.co.uk
"Born in Lymington in Hampshire, Tom Browne is an accomplished actor, starting with the National Youth Theatre then the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He has appeared in several films, including Prudence and the Pill, Decline and Fall and the Vampire Lovers. He has also performed across the UK in repertory theatres and in plays for BBC/ITV.
Tom had worked for Danish Radio since 1965; and was asked to replace Alan Freeman to present the Sunday evening Chart rundown.
His first show was on 1st October 1972; it was called 'Solid Gold Sixty' broadcast from 4pm-7pm. The last hour counted down the BBC Top 20 which was also carried by Radio 2 Long Wave and VHF. His first show found David Cassidy at number 1 with 'how can I be sure'.
Tom Browne presented the top 20 until March 1978. His shows are well remembered for his distinctive cultured voice.
On leaving Radio 1, Tom continued a career in acting and his voice was used in many British television commercials."
also in emerdale farm I think

I'm not sure what Tom's currently doing, John but I remember hearing him in September 1992 when he talked about his years presenting the Top 20 on Radio 1 when all the presenters to date talked about the show. I think it was called "20 Years of the Radio 1 Chart". Somebody might be able to clarify the correct title. Sorry I can't help any further with Tom's current work but maybe one of the others will know, hopefully.

I know it's of no particular importance but as I've since found 2 web sites on the Radio 1 chart, I thought I'd pop them here: www.radiorewind.co.uk/tom_browne_page.htm uproar.fortunecity.com/galaxy/399/tomb.htm I hope this is useful to you.

If anyone is interested, I have recordings I made in 1972 and 1973 on reel to reel tapes of the year end chart run downs as presented by Tom Browne. The shows are complete, including all jingles If these are missing editions I could make them available for copying. I also have recordings of the last two shows Alan Freeman presented prior to Tom Browne's takeover.

I'm sure the BBC will be interested, do you have anything else from earlier? I almost found some radio 1 from 1967 but whoever recorded it cut out all the interesting stuff(to us)jingles djs etc out of interest was your 70s recording summer or winter most of the 60s recordings I found were winter and most 70s summer.

Sadly I have nothing from earlier. The machine was bought for me for Christmas 1967, and one of the frist recordings was of one of the Apollo moonshots, long since gone now though. I remember taping stuff from TV, like Crossroads, Batman, some kids serials. But I know I taped over them when I started taping from radio. The Alan Freeman stuff is from Sept 1972, and the Tom Browne stuff from Year end run downs, the Solid Gold Sixty of the years 1972 and 1973. As I said both shows are complete including jingles. I think I have some stuff from 1974 too, but I'd have to get the tapes checked to see what is on them. I've not played them for years and I'm not sure if the player works anymore.

found another audio tape of assorted radio1 and pick of the pops again no djs no jingles overuse of the pause button to cut out everything except the discs and voices saying "i don't know what to say, " "say anything", "no i cant think of anything" then it got chewed up by a rather bad 36 year old sellotape splice still nothing of any importance has been destroyed.
