Sorry, should have clarified that point earlier-- the Richmond Jazz Festival was shot with color film. One of the few "Shindig" shows to be produced that way. Some bookending intros and outros for the show by host Jimmy O'Neill were later filmed separately (back in the States) and edited into the finished program.

In a book on The Who I was reading recently, it claims that the Richmond Jazz Fest featuring both bands was not only filmed (which I have seen clips of) but also videotaped in colour as a joint venture between Brian Epstein's company and someone else (forget who offhand). Anyone know if this exists or has surfaced? Or even, indeed, if it's true! It would be a great record of the event if so. According to 'The Paul McCartney Story' by George Tremlett - August 3rd 1965:Subafilms (The Beatles & Brian Epstein) announced the were making £60,000 colour film of the National Jazz Festival at Richmond on 6th-8th August starring The Who, The Yardbirds, The Moody Blues, Georgie Fame, Manfred Mann, Spencer Davis Group and Rod Stewart. The film was apparently later show US TV. Has anybody seen this film or is still under raps at Apple?

This is actually what I was referring to about in my posts above-- the Richmond Jazz Festival film that Subafilms shot was edited and broadcast in the USA as two episodes of the popular "Shindig!" television series.
I don't know whether or not any of the footage was ever aired in the UK (either in B&W or in color)... if not, it seems quite a waste of some good performances.

I've uploaded a clip of Yardbirds doing "For your love" on this festival. It's without voice-over and (I think) has less screams. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVZrb9Rslc0Would be great if colour version of this exists

I've uploaded a clip of Yardbirds doing "For your love" on this festival. It's without voice-over and (I think) has less screams. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVZrb9Rslc0Would be great if colour version of this exists The B&W clip has been overlaid with sound from another source-- one that is **apparently** a different recording of the actual performance audio (If it's not, it's another live performance that certainly synchs up well with the footage). Was the any of the 1965 Jazz Festival aired on radio in the UK? That might be a possible source for the audio... I note that on the copy of an advertisement for the 1965 RJF, which you can find reproduced here: www.ukrockfestivals.com/Richmond-65.html...it says that Radio Luxembourg was doing an episode of "Ready Steady Radio" on the first night of the festival. Is it possible that this broadcast might be the source of the audio that was grafted onto the Yardbirds "Shindig!" footage? If so-- is the broadcast archived? (Or even know to have been privately recorded, for that matter?) -Kevin

The audio I used for the replacement was taken from a Yardbirds bootleg which listed it as unidentified performance. It had the other song (Hang on sloopy) as well, so maybe the full radio broadcast circulates
