Collectors usually talk in terms of their 16mm discoveries. Has anything ever be found on 2" quad tape by members of the public?

Not a very practical thing to have around the house, as you cannot tell anything about it, or even if its what its says on the tin, with a film copy you can imeddiatly tell what condition its in, if its been edited and if you have enough patience you can unroll it all over carpet see if it has the scene you want. So this would be why a film copy was preferable to have than a rather large quad.
However quads are found in private hands, in recent years a collection was found in the former home of the late Jack Hylton a band leader, and later a producer at Rediffusion. All crudely produced variety stuff it seems, but a valuble snap shot of early TV , It went into the black hole of the NFTA but at least they are looking after it.
Hughie Green had his own machine, and thus had his own collection. However in his will, his son was instructed to burn everything it seems.
Peter Cook wanted to buy the 'Not Only but also' shows from the BBC, they came back with "huge cost of tape" blah blah. So he said he would buy them brand new tapes to replace them. Anyway history knows the answer to that one,as most of them have been lost

...and not very charitable of him to have all the tapes destroyed, to say the least!

Very true. Anyone know what was in the collection? Was it just Opp Knocks / Hughie material or was there other unconnected missing material too?

AFAIK just personal stuff like home movies and performances he was pleased with. it occurred to me that the 'stand up and be counted' OPKnocks now only exists as a degraded copy and perhaps hughie was given the main tape as a souvenir ?. Also the other curious thing is the fact that much of Green's and Jess Yates' material for Yorkshire TV seems to have disappeared. As we know there was no love lost between them and had this vision of both of them in fits of pique chucking each other's material in the skip. Green's son obviously has all the answers one way or the other.

I'd love to know if we'll ever see any of these Jack Hylton produced shows that should still survive:- Love & Kisses (Associated-Rediffusion ITV 1955) Arthur Askey, Glenn Melvyn, Danny Ross, Anthea Askey. Broadcast Nov-Dec 1955. The first 3 episodes still exist: tinyurl.com/AyThankU
