My Dad had a copy of this on video when I was a kid and it was a fantastic piece of television. For years I've been searching for a copy and, after putting some feelers out on the net, found someone who had one. It came today in the post (on DVD too!) and I've just watched it again. It's fantastic stuff. It's just a shame things like this aren't available to buy on DVD commercially.

It was originally called 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On' when it was broadcast way back in 1964 but was re-broadcast in 1987 (which is the source for my copy) and was re-titled (for some reason) 'Don't Knock The Rock'.

Odd that they would allow both Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis to perform 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On' separately on the same TV program.

It really is a fantastic piece of TV. The performances given by Lewis and Richard really do drive the audience into a frenzy. You can see what power they had has performers and it makes for fascinating viewing.

Wasnt the 1987 repeat edited or amended in some way though?Hence the retitling?

Apparently yeah but I don't know what was changed or why.

They have to tamper - that's why! I love it when they show an original show as it first went out. I prefer the authenticity of the original any time. They could hardly pass it off as a new programme in 1987 by re-titling / editing so why not just leave well alone and make a few people happier?!?

They were originally two different programmes
"whole lotta shaking" and the 'Little richard show"

they were remastered and joined together and shown around 1977 as "dont knock the rock" lucky they did as the master of whole lotta shaking was looking very wobbly indeed .

they're getting mixed up with the richard littlejohn show I think

The great title sequence on "whole lotta shaking" following bikes into the studio , looks like it was watched by the great old Frankie himself
as a year later a very similar style (except bikes changed to limousine)
is used on "a man and his music"
