Does anyone know anything about a Simon Dee hosted 60s show called 'DISCOTHEC'? I've just got hold of one edition (possibly a pilot) and can find absolutely no mention online. It's nothing to do with the similarly titled DISCOTHEQUE with Ayshea Brough.

Seems to be a one off pilot, and a jolly good one at that.
I imagine it was aimed at the ITV market as there is a natural break in the middle and it mentions a company at the end so it can't be an Auntie Beeb one.
Perhaps with three established shows already there (RSG TOTP and TYLS) there just was no room!

As there is so little BBC Dee Time footage surviving, it is quite a valuable visual document. I think it was shown to Dee in 2003 and he had never seen it previously. I believe it was never screened and no other eps were made. It's just great that it still survives. I agree with Kev, a great program with interesting comments about the scene. A thoughtful program aimed at a slightly more mature pop audience. Cheers LD

That's right Larry.
I like the magazine format.
It makes a change from one hit song after the other.

Hadn't heard of this programme before. Is it on film or VT? I'd also like to know the contents.

Interesting! A Kinks performance of See My Friends! Didn't know that was around (the only UK version of the song surviving, to my knowledge) Is it a complete one? Anyone know if it's a filmed programme or tape?

..beat me to it. The contents look right but the title is definitely DISCOTHEC not DISCOTHEQUE. My copy certainly doesn't have initials on screen either.

Not sure if this is anywhere else, but this seemed appropriate place to post it. The Kinks performing See My Friends, plus an interview with Gary Leeds from The Walker Brothers: www.youtube.com/watch?v=brWIv2Sa0xE
