Having bought the Umbrella release of Callan Series Three on dvd recently, i was again sadly reminded of the fact that a number of the episodes from the previous 2 series are missing ( 10 in number if memory serves me correctly). However, soon after I began to wonder if anything in the form of clips, either visual or audio, survived for any of these missing episodes such as is the case with such series as Public Eye or, more famously, Doctor Who, and if so, might they be included as extras with the still-extant episodes if they ever see the light of day on dvd?

Seeing as 'Callan - The Definitive Collection' is (hopefully!) due for DVD release this November I couldn't help wondering if perhaps anyone knew what extras this set might contain, other than the Andrew Pixley booklet and the documentary.

I,m a massive Callan fan and regard it as one of the finest British dramas ever made. I,ve bought everything that I know exists and had accepted that there was probably nothing else to find, but if there is more that would be fantastic.

But remember that it says "an existing episode",so the best we could hope for would be an upgrade.

This is good news. If its an upgrade let's hope its a broadcast version of The Worst Soldier I Ever Saw, as I think the release is made up of unedited studio tapes. If I could 'wish' an episode into existence it would be The Running Dog which apparently featured Nicholas Courtney of Who fame.

I'm pretty sure the original B&W DVD collection release was a newly edited to broadcast version and the unedited studio tape is only on the "This Man Alone" single DVD.

spp at Roobarb reports that Kaleidoscope have announced the recovery of the Audio of a Missing 'Callan' episode 'Once a Big Man, Always a Big Man' (Originally transmitted 19.03.1969). They intend to animate it once Adam Adamant is finished.
I admit that I had to check the date!
