When episode six "Out of Mind" that was originally scheduled for broadcast on 13/10/1969, was dropped from the schedules and was never rescheduled. It was subsequently, destroyed during the BBC's archive purge and thus has never been broadcast. Does anyone know if it was tele-recorded by BBC enterprises for overseas sales and if so therefore could it have found its way back to an individual or be in a TV station archive out there some were still. I know that some of the above is wishful thinking however just to know it was made available and sold to some countries by BBC Enterprises is enough rather than it just been made then wiped

The production is a shambles so I might be wrong- but very doubtful it had overseas sales? let alone finish its transmission run. The directing is atrocious, the title sequence for a start looks like an ad for Shell or Esso rather than the BBC's answer to UFO.

The production is a shambles so I might be wrong- but very doubtful it had overseas sales? let alone finish its transmission run. The directing is atrocious, the title sequence for a start looks like an ad for Shell or Esso rather than the BBC's answer to UFO. The four episodes that survive in the BBC archives have the ‘Distributed by BBC Enterprises’ world logo at the end of them so this would imply that they were originally made to support the overseas sales market at the time. With this in mind I would have thought the other episodes would have been film recorded too from the original 2” Quad 405 line low band videotapes. Due to “Out of Mind" been originally scheduled for broadcast on 13/10/1969 then dropped from the schedules I was not sure if it was film recorded for BBC Enterprises. I have read of and known of occurrence were a program has had a 16mm tele-recording made of it at least a month in advance of its UK transmission for example Adam Adamant lives ‘A Sinister Sort of Service’. So with this in mind it could have been sold to customer of ‘Enterprises’ in advance of it been dropped from the schedules. < The production is a shambles> I would agree it’s not what you would call a series with excellent polished production values, however with regards to your statement < very doubtful it had overseas sales> You could be correct however general viewing does seem to show that this would not have been due to Enterprises not having prints of the first four episodes at least!

For those who have never heard of this series, and would like to make up their minds for themselves here is the first 9 minutes of the first episode of Counterstrike: King's Gambit as seen on TV screens in 1969: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgFfSHZ7o6gI think it looked neat, would like to see the other existing episodes. Do any standalone clips or segments exist for this series ? Hope you enjoyed the clip. Lance.

nice, by the way was it made in black and white? as the broadcasts would have just preceded the start of colour on bbc1.

Yes, it was one of the last BBC drama series made in b/w, which was probably one reason the postponed episode was never shown.

I imagine the whole series would have been made into telerecordings if the first four were (and the non-transmission of that episode in the UK might not have any bearing on its saleability), the programme file in BBC Written Archives would possibly mention that, but I'm afraid I don't have easy access to those details.

Well, I could either phone Caversham up and ask them to research it for me (expensive, and I'm not really allowed to spend the licence payers' money like that) or I could spend my own money going there and checking the details out - not something I do every day I'm afraid, but next time I'm due to go there I'll try to remember to have a delve in the files...

There were a number of 1968/69 dated BBC 1/4" location sound reels from Counterstrike sold on eBay last week.

never spotted the listing, odd one to see pop up on ebay to for a series with very little else to support it.
