The extra material may not be exhaustive enough to please every fan but I love the effort that goes into these animated sets and personally, I couldn't ask for more.
It sounds like the lack of fundimg for the animations will finally kill off the classic series DVD range. I dont know if anyone has come out said as much (I dont follow Who things as closely as I used to) but if this is the end, it sounds like the range is going out on a real high. It deserves to be so. The DVDs, these animated sets in particular, were are consistently high quality items, and a true must-have. It seems ages ago when TUM came out, supposedly the last title in the range, and since then we've had a few false endings, yet somehow, against the odds perhaps, they've managed to continue on and find buyers even though 'physical media' is dead' - or so we're told. The quality and effectiveness of some creative choices of the animators not withstanding (Mr Tickle arms!), I will miss these animated sets very much, and the classic DVDs. Never again will I need to re-organising my DVD shelf every time a new one comes out. But look at them all there. Titles I'd never dreamed would be standing there - Web, Power, Enemy, Evil, and even Galaxy bloomin' 4 thank you very much. Bittersweet days.

It seems that the future of the animations is dependent on a partner to share the cost/risk. Obviously none of us are party to those discussions although I’m sure those involved are leaving no stone unturned.
An animation first needs a decent soundtrack and not all for MEs have that. Whether what exists can be sufficiently cleaned up is uncertain, but technology is improving all the time.
Some stories/MEs have little visual material, such as a lot of Season 3, making it difficult to get the look and feel.
Then, whether we like it or not, some stories just aren’t “sexy” and, let’s face it, some weren’t very good.
It’s probably time to be realistic and say that, unless prints turn up, we’re unlikely to get much more of Season 3, possibly a telesnap reconstruction of the Savages.
Both the Smugglers and Highlanders have telesnaps but, realistically, even considering the importance of the latter in introducing Jamie, are there going to be animations? Assuming there are reasonable audios I can see a Season 4 BluRay release with telesnap reconstructions of Smugglers and Highlanders.
There is one story I can see being completed with animation, Wheel. It has two surviving episodes, a complete set of telesnaps and, as a Cybermen story, it’s “sexy” and the start of Episode 1 has already been animated. All things considered this is probably the best, and possibly last?, candidate for animation.
I don’t know about Space Pirates or Marco Polo, anyone for a lottery ticket or crowdfunding?

Masterplan, surely. I mean, daleks are sexy, somehow, aren't they?
But Myth Makers is the pick of the bunch IMO as far as missing Hartnells are concerned. Perhaps if they find the real Trojan horse or something and interest in Troy revives ...

Perhaps if they find the real Trojan horse or something and interest in Troy revives ... Richard Masterplan, I understand, has some very poor audios and there are no telesnaps. In fact there appears to be no visual material from quite a few of the episodes. FoS could be omitted but what about MTTU? If you include the latter and exclude the former that’s nine episodes to animate. How much do you have to charge for it? OK, you could split it into two…. But there would probably be economies of scale in commissioning the whole thing. What happens if the first half doesn’t sell very well? I’d hope it would but nothing is certain. I think some more recoveries would be needed to make Masterplan viable. I’m dubious about Myth Makers.

Masterplan's audio no doubt will be improved upon and even then using AI now a days you can improve the audio quality of a lot of recordings. It's a bit dubious I know but we'll see what happens. I have no doubt that the team will do a fantastic job.
Though I do think it would be good to have a crowdfunding to finalize the animations. I'm not particularly sure how it could work but we'll see.

I have no doubt that the team will do a fantastic job. Though I do think it would be good to have a crowdfunding to finalize the animations. I'm not particularly sure how it could work but we'll see. Probably the first task would be to give the audios to Mark Ayres, just to listen to, probably with the scripts. He could then assess the task and could, of course, copy and paste dialogue to replace dodgy sections. However, it’s gotta be all or nothing. Next there would need to be an assessment of the visual material. In the absence of telesnaps this would be production or publicity pictures plus seeing whether any locations are in the existing three episodes. I have no idea what the outcome of this would be. Crowdfunding could operate as an advance purchase scheme. Contribute, say, £10 and get a £10 discount on the published DVD/BluRay. Contribute somewhat/significantly more than the purchase price and get listed as, say, a “sponsor”. There would be details to sort out but I don’t see any fundamental problems.

So sad the funding was pulled. I am trying to remain hopeful and think back to before BBC America came on board when we were still getting animations then - obviously not very frequently, but still a good number released, and the quality on some of the earlier ones being very well thought of. Not going to happen, but wouldn’t it be fab if there was a 60th anniversary surprise for us!
On the main subject, my TAS steelbook is out for delivery from Amazon! That’s my Monday evening sorted! :-)

Only a tiny minority of those here have any insight into the finances - and they’re not telling. That’s completely reasonable as it’s clearly commercial in confidence. Perhaps in a few decades time someone will write a history of the DVD/BluRay ranges and get access to the figures. Some crowdfunding projects can raise five or even six figures. Earlier this year a statue of the pioneering female palaeontologist Mary Anning was unveiled in Lyme Regis - she even has a DW connection tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Mary_Anning The appeal www.maryanningrocks.co.uk/ raised £100k www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-55953490 of which I contributed, iirc, £15. Other than supporting something worthwhile I got nothing, and one day I’ll take a trip to Lyme Regis to see it!
