A quick question to anyone who watches the show regularly. While at the launch of the show it seemed they had lots of rediscovered TV gems, the descriptions for later shows reads like they are recovering (mainly) home movies and the like (i.e. non-broadcast footage). Is this the case?

Is this the case? I suppose it depends on what they come across at the time. The Hidden Truth and No Hiding Placewere scoops for them as they were thought lost. But at the moment (as you say) it is mainly home movies, which seems a popular feature as the viewers can contribute by saying where they were shot (as nobody knows as the cameraman is probably dead) - corporate/info films which now seem funny and may have a well-known star hosting - and VTRs that may have behind scenes views of a famous prog or deceased star.. usually of a reasonable/good quality as they do not accept domestic tape..VHS etc. Sam Kydd's home movies were enjoyable as they showed the making of Orlando which being lost you had the initial impression that it was just a studio-bound cheap kid's programme ..but the home movie revealed lots of exciting location work and all the boy fans who had turned up to watch the filming.

Thanks, Peter. Anything's better than nothing, and the Orlando home movie sounds fascinating.

Is this the case? Yes, they started with a flourish-remember, that's where they showed the odd reels/clips of lost No Hiding Place-but have tended to focus more on footage detectives identifying buses on home-movies. But still they send out request each week to viewers to look out for, and send in, unconsidered reels of film. At least they're trying.

"Sunday 22nd Jan.5.00 p.m. This week, we look back on the children's TV of our childhoods with some fascinating reels. There's also a 1950s car rally, a short on The Highway Code and we look at The Green Cross Code man."

Sunday 15th Jan. 5.00 p.m. "This week, we look at a lost reel of Tony Blackburn, we take a look at Model Boats - did you build one? Did you race yours? There's a special motorbike race and who remembers Tooth Powder?".

Did tooth powder come in tines rather like show polish? I never used it but that image comes to minf, possibly through magazine of TV adverts.
