I see Wings were the guests.
I presume it was the pop promo rather than in studio.
I don't have Peter Checksfield excellent books to hand so can someone refresh my memory please.

I imagine if Wings had performed on the show Kev lots of us ancients would have memories of it? Hopefully I'm wrong.

They actually appeared on the show, performing 'Helen Wheels'. It was their only appearance on the show.

As well as my own Beatles book, other sources also list Wings as appearing in the studio. Keith Badman even names the studio and time! Personally, I don't remember seeing it, so can't conform 100% (I was 10 years old in 1973 and very much into music, but I honestly can't recall ever seeing an episode of 'Lift Off'. Maybe my parents insisted on seeing something else over on BBC1?).

Post by jerryg on Jul 6, 2014 at 7:32pm Regarding the conversation we had some time ago on here about wings performing at the Granada studios in 1973 with Helen wheels ,in the beatles diary it says that wings performed live at the studio on dec 19th 73 to perform Helen wheels ,but the show was recorded usually either the week before or a couple of weeks in advance ,so that would have made the date of them recording the show either the 13th dec or before ,also ive just had a reply from ayshea brough on twitter and she said that wings didn't perform live on lift -off ,so it must have been a film of the song they showed ,I was thinking what a great line up of guests that show would have been if wings were on the show live ,it would have had t rex and paul McCartney at the same time in the same studio, the kiddies in the studio audience that day would have had a good story to tell. missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/4867/lift-off-ayshea?page=21

Mike Morton may know for sure.
He's writing a Granada book at the moment.

One of the biggest mysteries of the 1960s and 1970s is why Freddie Garritty was on children's TV so much.
