youtu.be/grlk-ypKVpsFury is the next one in line to be animated. Yet again, another missing Troughton serial will be made available to enjoy on DVD for new generations trough the means of animation. Great news, of course. The ME animation of Macra Terror seemingly kicked of a trend I am very pleased to see, though it also seems like even the BBC might have lost its hope in any further recoveries being made. But if recreation is the best we can get, I am all too happy for every recreation we do get. ^^

With the full animation of The Faceless Ones, at best they've ruled out a full recovery which is pretty unlikely anyway.

We're surely in a different era of Animations now. The previous era governed by different studios for each animation and an unspoken rule of "50% missing or less". After the success of Power of the Daleks, looks like BBC Studios is taking the lead on larger animations with color versions and a more vocal PR campaign. Which is good!
I wouldn't say that they've "ruled out" the possibility of missing episodes showing up ... but they are animating stories that are the least likely to show up again. Of course, there may be a day that an animated episode WILL be recovered. (Not including Faceless 1 or 3, we already had those).

This is really good news, however i am in two minds yes i know that we dr who fans are never happy,we will probably get both b+w plus colour animations and all the effort will be worthwhile, but i just hope that some of the real episodes will turn up again, maybe not all of them but some as this is a classic serial not to have any episodes in the archive.BOO WHO.

Three sets of prints by my calculations: Print 1: Australia = likely to have been disposed of (bandsaw?) prior to the bulk return 1975, so unless somehow 'rescued' and held by a film collector in Australia, chances of these prints ever turning up are pretty much zero Print 2: Hong Kong - Singapore - Gibraltar = likely to have been returned to the BBC and junked, but not before at least part 6 was sent to the editing department in Villiers House, hence the empty film can (with a new label) being found in 1988 Print 3: New Zealand = dumped in a landfill in late 1974, so unless it was salvaged in the same manner as 'The Lion', chances of this ever being found is also zero

It’s nice that it’s getting an animation, but I must declare that my first and overriding emotion regarding this news is disappointment. I know this one is very unlikely to return but I always held out hope that part of this fantastic serial may have been miraculously found given it had no animation despite the fact it’s a very popular serial, always coming out near the top of the “what serials do you want back?” polls. I guess this reduces the chances of this being the case.

We're never any closer to knowing that something is less likely to be found, apart from the day PM hangs up his hat which will just take us back to the time before he put it on. Tomb only had three copies made, perhaps four. Richard

Oh this is a bit of a surprise (albeit a welcome one!) as many thought the next release would be Evil of the Daleks considering The Faceless Ones is the preceding story being animated. Regardless, better start saving for the limited edition steelbook version of Fury' now then as the Beeb really do tend to knock those out of the park, artistically speaking.

A cynic might say this makes the recovery of FFTD even more likely. ie - the Beeb want to milk fans into buying the animation before announcing the episodes have been found and will be released on DVD once sales have peaked!

Well it was nice of them to give us the news in advance of The Faceless Ones release instead of keeping the next release top secret until several months after TFO is officially released. Now instead of people bombarding the BBC for an official announcement they can work on it in peace.
