Thanks for your assistance Ashley. I am still of the view the 21/01 recording in Glasgow went out the following Thursday as it is the most logical explanation. It does however contradict some of the info on this thread!

It does however contradict some of the info on this thread! I would agree but on closer inspection the TOTP broadcast on 21 Jan has the following number 12/1/5/0014 for (I think) accounting purposes (it says charge to this number) which is the same as Gerry and The Pacemakers appearance from the 21st. The prog. broadcast 14th ends in the number 0013 and the one after (the 28th) 0015. Unfortunately their contract doesn't say what time (The Moodys) had to film but I am now thinking that it was filmed during the 21st to be played into the show that evening. They look like they're playing in a different space to Gerry in what looks more like a large room rather than the regular TOTP set ? Not a sign of Saville either who can be seen in the background during Gerry's clip. I suspect that the Dec. 64 appearance by The Moody Blues is actually missing and the version we have is not a repeat from that day but an ampex recording made 21 Jan 65 for the 21 Jan 65 show. (??). On the 20th Jan chart the record had just jumped from number 10 to 3. Other artists seemingly from the 21 Jan edition also exist (Brian Poole / Gerry and The P. / Del Shannon / Moodys / Manfred Mann) so I'd be inclined to think that the episode survived partially and that is why we have the Moody Blues clip. Maybe Peter Checksfield has some info. Either way, what a great record. Heard it a gazillion times and it still sounds ace !

Yes I like Go Now too, even if it's atypical of the Moody Blues a few years later, after Denny Laine had left & they had become more progressive in style.
I think the Rock Family Trees edition The Birmingham Beat features this clip.

Now there's another weird one, as that doesn't look like the TOTP set at all and looks a lot like the set on The Beat Room, but as we all know, The Beat Room was live, not mimed.

Manfred Mann were in Adelaide on 21st January on an Australian tour with the Kinks and the Honeycombs; the 'Come Tomorrow' clip must have been filmed before the group left the country for the tour which began on the 20th.

I love the young fan trying to put Paul Jones off his miming!

I am hoping someone can advise here. We have received a query at the Scottish Football Museum regarding this performance which we are all familiar with www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUFFRd27YDw&app=desktopThere are two or three Glasgow Rangers players in the audience and the query is when and where did the recording take place. There is a suggestion this is the 31/12/1964 edition although the TOTP database indicates this track featured around four times around then - not surprising as it made the top slot. I believe TOTP was recorded in Manchester around this time? There were no Rangers matches anywhere in the south during the relevant period but one source claims the sequence was filmed in the Piccadily Club on Glasgows Sauchiehall Street. Is it likely it would have been a film insert on TOTP? With the bands name so prominent it certainly doesn't look like the TOTP set. However I can find no record of the Moody Blues performing anywhere north of the border around the time and it seems unlikely they would travel to Glasgow to record one track. A further theory is that this may have been recorded when Rangers players appeared on Quizball but this can be discounted as it debuted in 1966. Thanks in advance! Which Rangers players are seen, Ronnie?

Davie Provan, Davie Wilson and George McLean Sal. McLean can be seen dancing at around 1.52 on the clip. I am now beginning to wonder if, despite the TOTP caption from Sounds of the 60s, the sequence was perhaps exclusively from A Quick Look Around and didn't feature on TOTP atall, Then again given BBC Scotlands archiving policy.........
