If I may say so, without sounding ungrateful, it is a pity that there isn't time for redubbing. A couple of things could be combined (German episode #2). The technology is no longer difficult or expensive - although it's of course still easier said than done. (It could if necessary be done with a laptop and a suitable microphone as long as you had a python in a room with no background noise.) Artist availability is an issue of course. We could have waited, but it would have meant delaying until the middle of next year. And arranging something on location? Some of them do podcasts, others do radio series... Of course, the more voices you need, to more intricate it becomes, I realize that. But the sound dropping for half a minute is a bit jarring too, and there's not going to be another chance. I hope that at least it can be tried when it's the German episodes' turn; there it would only be Michael.

I've got said Laserdiscs on the way so I can plug the gaps once the BDs arrive! 😁

Hmm. No idea it was on the laser disc or VHS. Who released them? "Tonight, tonight..." was cut before TX, but like several other episodes (Book at Bedtime being one), the original edits survived long enough to be given to The Pythons at the end of 1979. Unfortunately those original PAL tapes were sent to the US when Devillier Donegan distributed the series for a short time. We only have an NTSC umatic recording of this and Book at Bedtime, although we have resurrected 'Book at Bedtime' as you will see. What is common to both of these NTSC recordings is that they are cropped big time due to a crude late 70's converter being used. Paul www.lddb.com/laserdisc/21875/LV12652/Monty-Python-Flying-Circus-05PS Paul, the laserdisc isn't actually needed, is it? By the way, how are our chances for Is this a record? and Who's there??

So yesterday the big box arrives! What an amazing piece of work! We've only watched one episode so far (1.10, Orchestra Goes To The Toilet) as I'd got home late and just had time to open the box before bedtime (!), but it bodes well for the rest of the set! My other half couldn't believe the picture quality for something made in 1969, and I tried to briefly explain what had been done but I bamboozled her a bit! And those books will take a good few years to pore over I think! A great journey of rediscovery begins, and massive thanks to all concerned!

My set was waiting for me on the front stoop when I got home today. Wow. The box itself is gorgeous and the exploding design is a real treat. Can't wait to dive in later tonight! Thanks again to everyone involved with this amazing set. You are all my heroes

It’s a shame that none of the other series 1 film turned up bar episode 10, I didn’t think a rotten old BBC program could look this good!

It is good.
If it's of use, I can talk through the issues we resolved episode by episode.

That would be great if you could Paul, apparently the Pixley books are fantastic for historical info but light on for the nerdy restoration details we all love so much.
Is there any reason why Wither Canada has always looked a little smeary compared to the other episodes? Or is it just my imagination after it looking so bad on home video for so long?

I have really enjoyed the episodes that I have watched so far. I am watching on a 65" screen and am really impressed by how well the video holds up. It's fun to watch something that has been worked on and restored by people who love it as much (if not more) than the rest of us. This has been a treat and worth every penny. Thank you to all involve. As Paul mentions above, I do hope there is a breakdown of what happened with the restoration process. It sounds like at times quite the patch work which sounds like a wonderful challenge to put back together.

Found a bit of a strange artifact at the end of s1e3, the film underneath the scrolling credits (but only that part) seems to be interlaced wrong, leaving a bit smear where Palin moves across the screen: i.imgur.com/QPa7tmJ.jpgEven with the interlacing turned off on my player, the film should still display properly with the text on top being the only interlaced part (this is exactly how the credits display on s1e2) I'm confident it's not a fault in the originals, because the s1e3 credits on the 2007 PAL DVD display just fine. Fingers crossed this can be rectified on future pressings of the series 1 set!

This set has me laughing, crying, gasping, cheering. Just a splendiferous emotional roller coaster to see my beloved Python so beautifully after 40 years of those brilliant yet grubby original showings and repeats. I'm a working class Dublin lad and I'd dump my Dublin Advertiser free newspapers in the local Canal to get home to see the 9pm repeats back in 1979 I think? They consumed my life and influenced it for eternity. Paul.....what you and the Network team have done is just something I can hardly put into words but it's historical for sure and will be deeply loved by generations. Thank you so so much. I could pick pure highlights (animation restoration, John and Michael in bed, the VT Clocks, the student on location film..) but a sheer revelation for me is something you may not know about (or it may very well be known, sorry if it is) but I nearly fell off my chair watching 'A book at bedtime'. It suddenly started with a party political broadcast that turned into a light entertainment choreographed sketch, then some Harold Wilson ballet and 'The book at bedtime'..!! Every off air episode I taped in my life of this episode started with the book at bedtime. We in Southern Ireland got BBC1 Northern Ireland (that's why most people of my age HATE Northern Ireland, it's nothing political) so I can only think that this opening was edited out of all BBC1 NI showings because it says the 'Conservative and Unionist party'. There's no other explanation I don't think. So I got another extra few minutes of treasured extras without even expecting too. This exploding box is the gift that just keeps on giving. Thank you Paul and Network. xx
