Well, the Doctor Who YouTube channel just released this trailer youtu.be/tAMAxBFJBvESo, The Faceless Ones is the next missing story, who'll get the honour of being brought back to life via animation. As far as the trailer goes, it seems pretty similar to the Macra Terror in style and again appears to be fully coloured. Completing yet another piece of the heavily fragmented season 4. I suppose, the mixture of the high number of missing episodes as well as the rather slim chances for many Season 4 stories to be recovered may result in animation focusing on this particular season. But whatever the reason, as long as there is no news regarding recoveries, this is probably the best we can get... and especially now, while it's been rather silent regarding Doctor Who ME in recent times, this announcement is quite exciting.

That is good news. I think if they are doing this story, we can certainly expect Evil of the Daleks in the future.

Are they animating all six? Or just the four missing? Can any more restoration work be done on the two we have? I know one of the eps is in bad shape.

I think they will rotoscope the existing two. Surprised they picked a story that two episodes existed but I suspect they will lead into evil of daleks

"The six new animated episodes are being made in full colour and high definition and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in 2020. The DVD and Blu-ray release will also include surviving archive material from the original 1967 production." www.doctorwho.tv/news/?article=the-faceless-ones-animation-to-be-releasedSeems like we're getting a full 6 episode reconstruction, probably so all can be watched in the new colour format

I'm happy that the story is getting animated but it seems like a bit of a waste of time to animate the 2 existing episodes. The time taken to do that could be better spent on making the animations of the MISSING episodes look as good as possible.

They will likely not reanimate. Probably just run the episodes through a tracing process and add color. Should take little time away from the other episodes

I think they will animate all 6 episodes simply so that it can be sold as an animated set. Now I do believe we will get the existing episode's as extras but as many of us already have them it will be duplication. One hopes we get the photo galleries and standard extras that the Restoration Team used to put on the DVDs.
As for Evil of the Daleks it is getting apparently a LP record re release so it might be a while before we see that one (How many times have the BBC released Evil any way. I have it on BBC cassette tape, a BBC CD and if I read correctly its coming out on vinyl soon.
Still its great that the animation effort is continuing, obviously they are selling.

Odd that this is being released before and over the superb cut-down first episode of Wheel on Space that was released as an extra on the Macra Terror animation DVD.It's literally been left hanging which is a bit frustrated. The cut down episode wonderful.

The cut down episode wonderful. They would have to redo it, it was made as cheaply as possible as a demonstration piece. If the American broadcaster are happy paying for them ,let them carry on as they are. Less pressure on the physical releases.

The Macra Terror dvd had the Loose Cannon reconstructions on it, so I'm guessing they're animating the existing episodes to animation standards as a matter of consistency, and featuring the surviving episodes and clips as part of the reconstruction section.
To be honest, I don't care WHAT they do, as long as both options are available.

Only a tiny fringe of viewers tolerate creaky black and white in 2019, despite what archive geeks think. BBC America knows this. Steve Roberts pointed it out as far back as 1999.

As it was made in black and white I still feel that it should be released in black and white. I will give them credit for giving us these releases in color, black and white and a recon version. Still We Doctor Who fans being what we are will still find something to complain about. . .

black and white programs are increasingly not commercially viable beyond an ever aging and decreasing and unattractive to advertisers niche.
Old media largely appeals to older people.
