Once Upon A Time
Thames Television
Dear All
Here is a fantastic opportunity to participate in research and help contribute and add to scant episode information to enable identification and location of episodes which are all listed as Missing.
This programme started on the 3rd day of Thames Television on Monday 5 August 1968 and ran for 5 series until July 1972!
It might be best to present this in this opening post by listing the episodes for Series 1 (including the information so far revealed by research, which is for 10 episodes of the 37 episodes in this Series 1).
Once Upon A Time through research so far, has revealed it was not fully networked, and was shown by Thames in London, Southern Television Midlands, Yorkshire Television, Tyne Tees/Border Television and Granada Television. (Unless of course, you know or find out differently?).
The information needed is the Story-Teller (usually an actor or television celebrity), the Story name, Writer name, and Episode Director name.
This information may be obtained from National, Regional and Local Newspapers and other sources you may have access to?

It didn't replace Zingalong - that started in 1970, so they overlapped;
in fact Zingalong finished one month before Once Upon a Time....!

Otherwise, the newspapers for those dates will also provide invaluable information.
Does anyone know if the Episode Scripts still Exist? These would provide all gen!

9th June 1969 edition of Once Upon a Time, which of the following is CORRECT... Posted 29/05/19: It shows as Patrick Cargill reads a Lewis Carroll story, however, Posted 30/05/19: It shows as Rodney Bewes reads a Oscar Wilde story.. As I am currently in the process in contacting someone specifically about this show sending him details on what has been posted on this post so far and it would help if I can give him the correct information regarding the research. Hi Kelvin,
Regarding the information that was posted on 30 May post by myself, here is the whole TV Times, Granada region, entry for 9th June 1969 ...
4.10 - 4.25 pm
Once Upon A Time
RODNEY BEWES
This week, Rodney Bewes reads Oscar Wilde's story, The Devoted Friend.
The tale of the friendship between Little Hans and the Miller shows some people believe friendship means giving everything.
Director Daphne Shadwell Thames Television Production
For some reason, for which I can only apologise, the 30 May post by me, says The Deserted Friend.
As above, it should be The Devoted Friend.
TV Brain just lists for 9/6/69 The Devoted Friend. So agreement here then.
The entry for 9/6/69 posted by Ray, which has The Devoted Friend (agreement here again) yet written by Lewis Carroll and read
by Patrick Cargill, I cannot shed any light on.
Thank you for your great help Kelvin, with this Thread... Once Upon A Time.

Re: Post 29th May 2019. 31.08.1971 The Shoes That Were Danced to Excess Read by Dorothea Phillips.
There is a childrens book/fairy tale called The shoes that were danced to pieces by The Brothers Grimm HOWEVER this is what was posted: The Shoes That Were Danced to Excess
Which one is the correct.

My guess is that 'excess' is a failed OCR of 'pieces', and similarly that 'Little Claws and Big Claws' should be 'Little Claus and Big Claus' by Hans Christian Andersen.
Some other (very probable) authors are: Mr Buffin and Harold Trotter - Robert Hartman The Fair at Pagwell Green - Norman Hunter Lyle and the Birthday Party - Bernard Waber The Lazy King and the Clever Spider - Donald Bisset The Contest at Paca - Marc Simont The Lory Who Longed for Honey - Leila Berg The Bear That Wasn't - Frank Tashlin The Story of Lengthwise - Ernestine Cobern Beyer The Cabbage Princess - Errol Le Cain The Cunning Old Man And The Three Rogues - Greek fairy tale anthologised by Ruth Manning-Saunders The Laughing Dragon - Kenneth Mahood A Story from Carbonel - Barbara Sleigh The Story of Lazy Jack - anon, English legend The Herbert Situation - Rhoda Levine Princess Rosette Madame d'Aulnoy The Pumpkin Giant - Mary E Wilkins Freeman Gone is Gone - Wanda Gag from a Bohemian tale

My Thanks goes to forum member Kelvin Walker (and his Facebook friends) for this invaluable information ...
There has been a lot of progress since yesterday, thanks to various FB groups/sources. We are Only MISSING a total of 93 storytellers NOW, however as we know Patrick Cargill done at least 1 story in the 1960s and possibly David Nixon as well. Sylvia Peters also done a story during November/December 1968, however the source was unable to locate which story she read and transmission date and also Willoughby Goddard presented at least 2 stories. The Great news is that ALL the name of the STORIES are ACCOUNTED FOR (except: The VERY FIRST story read by Hattie Jacques 2nd August 1968 and 12th April 1971 edition, which was liking to be a REPEAT of a previous edition as were 19th April 1971 and 26th April 1971 were REPEATS). A Facebook group will look in the 1972 episodes later today and I will update when I have been told.
Regards Kelvin
