As far as I remember Today was an unremarkable local news programme that ran for many years and without the infamous Grundy v Sex Pistols spat would be largely forgotten now. I agree that if the programmes were taped they would probably have been wiped pretty soon afterwards. It shows the huge impact that the Sex Pistols interview had at the time that the footage was preserved. My only other memory of Today is of a sometimes testy relationship between Grundy and the then upcoming young kid on the block reporter John Stapleton.

Maybe the shows were recorded for duty logging? & normally wiped afterwards. It was. Then one of the engineers got a copy to Bob Pratt at the BBC and that's the reason it still exists today. Thames footage at the BBC!

Did Bob Pratt salvage the Sex Pistols clip then Ray? Pratt did save the Pistols appearance, however there seems to be a second source as well.

The Stan Lee audio I posted was taped the same day as Marc interviewed Roy Wood. He sometimes taped two interviews in a day. There is a bootleg out there with several interviews and also three T Rex performances on the show. and i can't find it!One of them wasn't shown - it was the Keith Moon one - which Marc said at the time was because they were too drunk. He did spend a lot of time out of the country from '72 onward - due to the 'spend less than 60 days in the UK and you don't pay UK income tax' rule that meant a number of UK pop stars headed for the US, France, Monaco or just on LOTS of tours.
