Region 2/B PAL vs Region 1/A NTSC. You can get a region free player or a PS4 to play Region 2/B PAL content. How do you get a PS4 to play dvds outside your region? My PS4 PRO is PAL R4 and won't played R2 locked discs. My PS3 wouldn't play them either. Hey Marty, i am not a gamer but it appears that you can't hack the ps4 directly to allow region-free playing of dvds or blu-ray discs. There are a number of software programs that say they can accomplish this, but all the ones I have reviewed call for ripping the disc to your computer, removing the region restrictions and then burning a clone disc that is region-free. That would certainly work. Apparently, Sony has made it impossible to hack the region settings for dvd/blu-ray discs directly on all the ps4 units. if you would like additional info on creating a clone disc without paying for questionable software, contact me via pm on this site. tom

Well, I was finally able to watch it a couple of days ago. The timing was perfect as my wife and I had just come home from spending two glorious weeks at a cult compound (actually a health retreat, but it felt like a cult compound) and every other scene in this story reminded her of it. (I was actually at the horrid place when I originally posted the question that started this thread.)

I'm not sure what happened to you or Marty. Maybe Region 4 won't play region free. I know for a fact Region 1 WILL.

Macra has now been available on DVD in the US for a few weeks now, yet they still haven’t released it digitally via iTunes, Amazon, or Vudu. Do they not want our money?

Does anybody know who to contact regarding digital releases? I don’t think Warner has handled the DVD releases for the BBC for many years now.

Its easy to get a multi region Blue Ray and DVD player in the USA. I have...and 3 regular DVD players that play PAL DVDs from around the world. Then, personally, I don't see the point of having different regions anyway. Although I bought a machine about 5 years ago myself, I have talked to various people and it is clear that a number of them don't even know what regional DVDs are or that there are players that can play them. The average citizen can't buy the old show they have seen years ago if it was not released in US format. I think that in the world as it is today, we should dispense with the regional coding. Computer games are just as bad, since old tech games can't be played on newer computers. Senseless. We need to standardize these things IMO.

I think the idea of regional coding was to limit the spread of piracy, but streaming has made that a moot point. Also some countries don't like "reverse imported" discs being brought into the country for less than locally made releases.
It's rare to find uncoded DVDs, though some independent releases don't bother to encode their discs & I've got at least 1 professionally made region 4 disc set which plays on my region 2 Blu Ray player without problems.
Blu Rays often are all region, so things are begging to slip.

Region coding was originally a studio based thing to prevent piracy. But many DVDs and Blue Rays produced over seas are Region 2 + 4 and many that I get from Australia are PAL region 0.
Heck the Doctor Who Blue Rays that I get from the UK (since the Matt Smith Sets) almost all of them in the past 5 years play on my Region A player and I don't have to boot it up for RB discs. Now if I get a Network Release like Space 1999 or The Prisoner I have to manually boot up my player to Region B mode

I thought the reason for region coding was so that rights could be bought for selected regions by different distributors without feat they would be undercut be those in other regions, or not released in certain regions for other reasons ie censorship.

That was also an original reason for region coding but with the rise of the internet and the availability of multi - region players you can get just about any release from anywhere on planet Earth and watch it any where in the world.

Apologies if this was already mentioned.
I just got a message that this is coming out on Boxing Day in Canada. Yea or Nay?

Apologies if this was already mentioned. I just got a message that this is coming out on Boxing Day in Canada. Yea or Nay? It’s been out on DVD in North America since early November. But there has been absolute silence about getting a digital release from services like iTunes, Amazon, or Vudu in North America, and that makes no sense. Power of the Daleks and Shada both got digital releases before their DVD releases over here, so why not Macra? I’ve reported it to Vudu customer service and they said they would reach out to the BBC to try and acquire it but I haven’t gotten another reply since then.

Maybe the Beeb are holding Macra Terror back for BritBox?

Maybe the Beeb are holding Macra Terror back for BritBox? That’s my thinking for the North American BritBox. Maybe on the 26th to be concurrent with the UK BritBox’s releases?

And I just got the digital HD copy on Vudu. It came out on December 31.
