I see that the vast majority of the youtube poster's files (of which there were 100s and 100s) have been removed overnight. Shame.

Shame as soon as you see them download them because it seems to be happening on a more regular basis.

Good One Mark! Border still making in black and white in 72? Still no 625 lines in 71 at Carlisle when we moved away so quite likely!

The excellent 'S-M-S' channel has deleted their videos too.

The excellent 'S-M-S' channel has deleted their videos too. Bummer : the owner of that channel contacted me after I had posted some audio-only 'missing' TOTP performances, informing me that he/she had copies of most of them on video, and directing me towards his/her channel.

The person was also very helpful when giving info for my 'Look Wot They Dun!' book. Oh well, perhaps less youtube videos will encourage good old fashioned trades?

The first I saw the Happy Jack promo was in "The Kids Are Alright" documentary in 1979.

Happy Jack's promo film - was it shown in the UK or not?
TYLS had finished by the time it came out; RSG had one more episode and that's covered with a very different Who performance.
So that, effectively leaves TOTP as the only prime-time possibility....
Now, according to Popscene's info, Happy Jack was featured twice - 29/12/1966 as a crowd dance; 12/01/1967 as a live appearance. Both shows are wiped.
So the story SHOULD end there; but it does not....
The Complete Chronicle of the Who (which has a few errors, but is excellent on a lot of information), states the promo film was made 19/12/1966; this was 10 days after the group had stated they weren't going to plug the single in person on TV - hence the making of the Michael Lindsay-Hogg promo film.
The book then states that the group appeared 29/12/1966 AND 12/01/1967 - it even goes so far as to list how much the band got paid for the latter appearance, which was filmed the previous day. All this from a group who weren't going to promote the single, and had made a promo film only days before. Highly unlikely, in my estimation.
My theory is that it was shown on the 29th December only; PasB's often have gaps for information such as 'crowd dances', when there is in fact a video being shown either in the background (see 25/03/1964 amongst others) or if all the details of the maker of the promo film weren't available.

did The Who perform Happy Jack on any other TV (UK or European) ? They promoted the song on 'Beat Club' twice (the second appearance taped at The Marquee in London).
