I saw it at the time and thought it was quite interesting, not least because of Princess Anne's Full Monty strip.
Seriously,the accents were a bit silly,but I can't see why they'd want to stop a re-broadcast.

It was rerun a couple of times during the 1970s but not apparently since, so there maybe indeed a VCR somewhere?
Presumably not to show bias? Lizzy commissioned it as a joint production between the BBC and the ITV commercial network..however I think it has only ever been shown on the BBC.

There are a few extracts that documentary makers can use.

I don't think Maj is the sort of queen to pull rank LOL and would have thought that a typical contract would have been drawn up between Maj and the TV companies and would have included the usual clause of a couple of repeats in order (they would say)to recover any costs they might have incurred had it not been 'a hit' (however it turned out to be a big hit)..but once those reruns had been exercised any further showings would have had to be re-negotiated with Maj who was now at will to block it or not.

I don't know what programme you are thinking of, but 'Royal Family' has definitely not been broadcast since 1969.

Incidentally, ITV showed it on 29 June 1969, 21 November 1969, and 28 December 1970. The last of those appears to be a cut down 50 minute version.

I’m a bit baffled that the originator of this thread (Angus H) has deleted most of his posts. So for future reference, I didn’t start the thread, I was responding to a question from Angus H. Interesting stuff about Royal Family though, a programme that has a reputation for being locked away in a vault and rarely seen, but was in fact repeated quite a few times and is available to view for anyone visiting a BFI Mediatheque in the UK.
Merry Christmas!

I have to admit the I had the impression that the programme was only shown once. I think it counts as a minor urban myth.
I get the point about the Mediiatheque, but for most people that's like the urban-redevelopment plans in Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Universe.
