Basil Brush Kinks performance just shown on BBC1. Marvellous! Looks like Ray is singing along on an open mic, Only a clip unfortunately, but yes, there was definitely some live vocals there! As rightly pointed out, this is the only known surviving footage of The Kinks promoting their 'Days' single.

As rightly pointed out, this is the only known surviving footage of The Kinks promoting their 'Days' single. Sorry to be pedantic, but there is also the clip of the 1968 promo film (filmed seemingly on an airport runway) that turned up in the 2010 ‘Imaginary Man’ Ray Davies doc. It’s presumably from Rays private collection and he has the whole thing. There’s also the 1969 ‘Pop Goes The 60s’ performance, although as this is from 18 months later and featured a different line up I appreciate that this doesn’t count as the group ‘promoting’ the single.

Absolutely fantastic to have seen this at last. I had been desperate to watch this since I first read mention of it in the Radio Times some years ago.
Was very funny as I was sitting near two aging, devoted, extreme punk rockers who came especially to see this and then pissed off immediately after it finished.

Such a shame it isn't being rebroadcast in full (TOTP2 maybe?). No disrespects to M&W, but I know which rediscovery I'd rather see.

This was the discovery which took it from "Oh yeah, It'd be nice to go to MBW." all the way to "I absolutely MUST be there." It definitely deserves a re-broadcast. It's just sad to think it might sit there forever on a shelf.

Maybe the BBC could be encouraged to add it into their 'Kinks At The BBC' collection that's forever being repeated.

Oh yes, probably my favourite surviving footage of The Kinks! The only way they could top that is if the long-lost 'Colour Me Pop' performance ever surfaced.
