It's not lost - it exists in full on digibeta at the BBC.

If it is 'archived' on tape then it's on a fast-track to oblivion anyway. Tend to agree judging by the Network release of Lady Killers series one which has a lot of half inch tape drop outs. Those metal formulation tapes are a disaster waiting to happen.

...remember, if a digital file is corrupted, you've most likely lost the whole thing. If a tape gets damaged, it's far more likely to be recoverable to some point - might get drop out, but at least it would play...

...you can still splice digi-beta and recover most of what was in it though...
