www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/david-bowie-first-five-years-documentary-bbc-734581/I wonder what the scope is here for any of Bowie's many MIA 60s TV appearances being uncovered? The article states 'unheard audio recordings' but only 'archival footage' (not specified as unheard) so maybe not, but you never know.. I can only think of 5 pieces of extant footage of Bowie pre-Space Oddity, and the first 4 are very brief, them being: 1) 'Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Long Haired Men' clip from 1965 2) home movie footage of Bowie in the street (1966 ish?) 3) Bowie filmed in a boutique briefly as part of a US doc on Swinging London (1967) 4) Blink and you'll miss it cameo of the back of his head in 'The Virgin Soldiers' (1968) 5) 'Love You Till Tuesday' film (1969) surely it would be hard to tell the story or 1964-8 without more extensive footage, so fingers crossed.....

Luv Ice Cream segments as shown on OGWT. The Image movie Looking Glass Murders maybe they will try to pass off "The Laughing Gnome" promo as vintage 60s

The Image movie Looking Glass Murders maybe they will try to pass off "The Laughing Gnome" promo as vintage 60s I forgot the Luv Ice Cream ad: again a very brief appearance! Have to admit I'd never heard of the Image film: that would definitely be a good additional source of footage. Looking Glass Murders is fascinating from an artistic POV but is Bowie onscreen much during it? Also being from 1970 it's technically out of the timeframe although I guess it works to illustrate Bowie's mime phase which started around 1967. Would love to see the Laughing Gnome promo included even if it's from 1973 and features a lookalike in Ziggy costuming! I guess between all that there's probably enough between all that to work but what is conspicuously and unfortunately absent from the 1964-68 timeframe is any performance footage of full songs.. I wonder If they were able to double check the RSG! holdings to see if any of Bowie's performances might still be around..

surely it would be hard to tell the story or 1964-8 without more extensive footage, so fingers crossed..... I think you're taking the film's title a little too literally, this is the period covered apparently: "The film - which will air 50 years after the release of Space Oddity - is a 90 minute film exploring the Bowie before Ziggy, a time when so many of the ideas that would ultimately turn him into the icon he later became were germinated. Starting in 1966, soon after David Jones changed his name to Bowie, the film traces his interest in everything from Holst to Pinky and Perky, from Anthony Newley to Tibetan Buddhism, and how he used all these influences to create not only Ziggy Stardust, but the material for his entire career." www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2018/david-bowieSo 1966-1971 apparently, which will give them a bit more footage to use, two surviving TV appearances for Space Oddity for starters.

Ah okay, fair enough. I guess I assumed that it would cover 64-69 cos the original 'Five Years' doc itself began in 1969. Although some reports mention that the 2019 doc will feature the 1965 audition tape by the Lower Third (wrongly referred to as 'footage' here! deadline.com/2018/10/bbc-david-bowie-the-first-five-years-1202478250/) so the 1966 start point doesn't seem a hard and fast rule either. But I'm probably thinking about this too literally as you say.

Pre-Ziggy you'll have the OGWT appearance, for starters; Ivor Novello is another.
I'd love it if any German appearances from the Deram period turned up.
