The galaxy 4 episode 1 4 hundred dawns footage was not wanted originally as they wanted full programs...2 clips from power of the Daleks aired on bbc1 before anyone realised the significance... Does make you wonder what may hopefully be in other programs awaiting discovery

2) Looking broadly for anything that could be missing rather than just Doctor Who; Yes! Also, do not snub "audio-only" tapes. By some magic DW has them for all missing episodes, but that really is an amazing piece of luck & luxury that other shows don't have. There is even a small number of episodes that exists in picture but is missing its audio, imagine how good it would be to find any of those.

Agreed, and this applies whether it is audio recordings in private hands or ones in archival collections.

Tom Baker's Countdown interview (17 February 1979, show 181), Peter Davison on Perth Nationwide (not Adelaide?), 1983/4 Christmas reel (suspect I've seen this), an Insiders piece on (George) Christensen's campaign to get Dr Who (made) in Australia, a news montage on (Mark) Scott shaking hands with (Stephen) Conroy as he departs with Conroy talking about Dr Who (Scott said Who was Conroy's favourite topic in their respective roles as ABC managing director and communications minister), the two Collectors pieces, a midday news piece on the revived show (2005), a 7.30 Report piece on Tristram Cary's 70th birthday (thus 1995), another piece on Tristram's book (if Illustrated Compendium of Musical Technology then 1992) a clip of Who and Star Trek on TVTV promoting Sky Trackers, a 4 Corners piece on John Hewson called Dr Who? (no other connection but worth mentioning; Magda Szubanski got Hewson a beauty when she asked if he was still being chased by the Daleks on Fast Forward because he didn't get it), the Dr Who theme used to illustrate the clocks changing for daylight savings ending, a 1989 piece on The Factory with a clip from The Time Warrior illustrating a video giveaway, and a Nationwide piece on author Michael O'Brien illustrated by unspecified Dr Who pictures, a lookalike coming out of a "box" and going to have a drink at a pub.
Clip of The Mind of Evil on a youth current affairs show called Attitude (illustrating Computer Culture, sadly from c.1994 so not likely to be a preserved colour except. Second clip from unnamed episode illustrating Australia as a republic in 2010.
Pieces on SwanCon IX in 1986 and AussiCon in 1975, the latter illustrated by clips from Zardoz.

Have you got the "Here In The West" (ABC Perth) Dalek episode Martin? I have. Not sure if it's got clips in it, it's been that long since I've seen it.

Have you got the "Here In The West" (ABC Perth) Dalek episode Martin? I have. Not sure if it's got clips in it, it's been that long since I've seen it. No -- but it sounds great! Eight records with Dalek -- sales footage database is incomplete. Six already described: Quantum Terrigator with unknown clip of supreme Dalek ordering other Daleks, two TVTV DWCV pieces, two Collectors, Dalek sale (unknown show possibly news) ... plus ... piece on WA researchers teaching robots to see (file footage of Davison and Dalek), a Make Poverty History protest in London with Daleks ( 2005 G8 summit?). Four hundred and forty four records for Here in the West, many just compiles, nothing with Daleks or Dr Who. Any more information?

Possibly more relevant than the odd Daleks, Dr Who and Pertwee obit is what it DOESN'T return. That Power of the Daleks clip filled episode of Perspectives, C for Computer, also features a sweet interview with Arthur C Clarke. It doesn't show up, nor does any Perspectives. Hence any Perspectives level clips ... would go unreported. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTdWQAKzESAEdit. Need I add ... Perspectives was on the last week of May 1974, episodes four and five of Power last played in June 1968. Four years and eleven months. This also means any of the prints held by ABC were open slather.

New Zealand almost rival the BBC for getting rid of their own stuff from the same era. Very little survives in full from the 1970s, either. That is a great pity indeed. I was more wondering though if there might have been a series of some sort from outside the UK that could have possibly aired Who clips. Whether they (theoretically) survived or not is half the question. BBC dramatic sales to CBC in Canada were light (with more sales to independent of franchised stations, looking for material to air outside of the small network prime-time spots). But there's no end of reused BBC documentary materials, aird in small or even large segments by various CBC documentary series over the years. If a 1960s BBC program did have a Doctor Who clip (did BBC not have to clear these short segments?), there's a reasonable chance that it sits forgotten, under a different title, hiding in plain site. As by the 1960s, CBC destruction of documentary series was relatively low.

I remember that TVTV piece on Melbourne fans. I got my Mum to ring up the ABC and they put me in touch with Derek Screen the BNF interviewed in the piece.

I've gone through ABC's footage sales database; it's far from complete and even if it were there is a strong possibility it could exclude clips. The search is pretty ordinary, many un-dated items will show up with no real criteria. The average return with "Doctor Who" is a news piece on malpractice. Items of note are the 2003 George Negus Tonight (AKA Dimensions) anniversary (with its irritating footage of Richard Hurndall), a piece on Melbourne fans for a 1993 TVTV segment, another undated TVTV piece on an "out of this world sci-fi exhibition", a 4.31 interview of Jon Pertwee by Kel Richards dated 30 May 1980, Pertwee's obituary piece, an undated piece on Perth fans appearing in Hay Street Mall in costume to promote a convention (literally appearing, handing out flyers in "fastmo" and then vanishing when reporter John Richards puts on a gas mask), a cover of the theme on Spicks and Specks, a titles montage from 1984 and a couple of pieces on a yacht called "Doctor Who" This is the pick of the bunch, anyone know about this? ID: 119666 - SUNDAY AFTERNOON WITH PETER ROSS; GUEST, ROBYN WILLIAMS - PROGRAM Duration: 3.58.00 Location: SYDNEY,NSW,AUSTRALIA Summary: FOUR HOUR ARTS PROGRAM CONSISTING OF OVERSEAS PURCHASED & AUSTRALIAN MADE PROGRAMS AS WELL AS THE STUDIO LINKS (INCLUDES WILLIAMS APPEARING IN 'DR WHO/DOCTOR WHO' EPISODE 'THE KROTONS' B&W) Personalities: PETER ROSS, ABC PRESENTER; ROBYN WILLIAMS, ABC SCIENTIFIC EXPERT Shotlist: NONE I've done some research on this. I've asked ABC Programme Sales to forward me the catalogue records of the clips you refer to. One thing must be noted - their data is incomplete, as the records have missing information on them.
I can confirm that the clip marked 'Dalek Sale' was transmitted on 29 September 1986. The extract included is not precisely listed; "Extract Dr Who episode". We can logically assume it would be a Dalek episode, given the subject matter of the clip.
The clip from Quantum was broadcast on 23 September 1986. The shot list records 'Lib Ftg: (Ex "Dr Who") VS Commander Dalek instructing group of Daleks. I am interpreting this as Library Footage: Extract of Doctor Who. Unsure what 'VS' refers to in the shot list, but other entries include things such as 'CU' which refers to 'Close-Up'. Maybe this clip is the same one that was used for the previous entry considering the closeness of the dates? How many instances of a 'Commander Dalek' instructing other Daleks occurs in Doctor Who pre-1986?
The Peter Ross clip was broadcast 29 August 1989 and explicitly states that an extract of The Krotons was used. Is this an indicator that the other two clips couldn't have their source episodes properly identified? It's very interesting to note also that the Quantum and 'Dalek Sale' clips do not appear to have any particular rights restrictions, whereas this is the case for the Peter Ross Krotons clip.
I shall be making further enquiries...

VS could mean VISION and SOUND. Though it would typically be A for audio.

VS in the Dalek Clip may mean View Screen(ie the Commander Dalek is on a TV monitor)

I've done some research on this. I've asked ABC Programme Sales to forward me the catalogue records of the clips you refer to. One thing must be noted - their data is incomplete, as the records have missing information on them. I commend you on the follow up, good luck if you get any more out of this! A couple of other tidbits ... Confirmation of destruction of Andra. A 1976 eight part serial, ABC has said they accidentally destroyed it (shipped the masters to [Hong Kong?], only to get back a game show in Chinese). One clip of Andra in the database, notes state it's all that's left. This Day Tonight footage of the 1974 Flinders University occupation. I met one of the people involved, and went looking for any records. Found the ABC Sales entry for the This Day Tonight (ABC's weekday current affairs show) segment, didn't realize Flinders had commissioned its own documentary on the event in 2004. Found it and the ADS-7 news footage had been uploaded onto YouTube two days before I went looking. Surprise!
