Hmm, is wheel in space the current rumour doing the rounds then? I think there was one about that years ago that didn't come to anything; I can't remember specifics at the mo. Of course any recovered Troughton would be good Do you know if this recon is animated or using the Cura telesnaps or something completely different? I tend to prefer the telesnap and soundtrack variety myself, but that's just me not a wheel in space but it is making the rounds.

Of the various rumors over the years since the Enemy/Web finds, Wheel certainly had it's fair share of them. (I'm not talking about the 40, 45, 90 rumors). I think it's because of their sale to Nigeria which is where the last finds came from. This makes them a prime target for speculation. I remember several times rumors proclaiming that they were "found". The most recent rumor said that only a couple episodes were found, the other two missing.
Of course, no sources. Just musings and rumors through the grapevine of the internet. These rumors haven't particularly interested me as they had no substance. But they did do the rounds on the boards for a bit.

Thanks but that doesn't answer either of my questions. I as I'm sure most fans do have animations/recons I prefer over others. But I'd still rather watch them/own them than not.

I wouldn't hold my breath. They were done by John Kelly, I believe, but under commission from BritBox specifically rather than BBC Worldwide, so it's fair to expect they're intended as and will remain an exclusive for the platform, as an attempt to draw interest. It's my understanding that this recon was meant as a pilot for a larger scheme at gap-filling, that has since evaporated for whatever reason. I guess it didn't have the draw they wanted? Such is the usual story with these things. It's kind of a curse. Someone passionate and optimistic gets a great idea on how to address the missing episodes, then quickly gets a taste of reality and goes crawling back into the underbrush. EDIT: "Only on BritBox," the trailer emphasizes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YVcuBoqW2A

I have Britbox, and am partway through watching this right now. I got the impression Britbox were really hoping to be able to say they have ALL Doctor Who in some form, but honestly these are every bit as unwatchable* as any other telesnap-based recons. If you're a completist, they're fine, but if you're looking to casually watch a Doctor Who story, I'm afraid I don't think they really help much.

I got the impression Britbox were really hoping to be able to say they have ALL Doctor Who in some form, That seems to have been the original intention. There was talk of putting up the audios for missing episodes (!), as well as doing more recons, in an effort to close all possible gaps. But, I guess reality got in the way again. Like, people will tolerate an odd episode here and there -- Web 3, for instance -- when there's no other option and it's fairly well signaled, but pouring in episode after episode of reconstruction does little but make it harder for a less dedicated viewer to find a "real" episode to watch, essentially devaluing Twitch's offering. Animation is another thing, as at least that's a creative work in its own right, that you can watch like any cartoon. It may not be exactly what a person is looking for, but it's a heck of an easier sell than a slideshow. And it's got some neat novelty value of its own, on the side. But, there's the time and expense factor here, with little chance of compensation. So we're back to square one, as usual.

The Recons were a product of there era. I loved them when they first came out on VHS in the mid 90's as it was a way to marry the audio sound tracks with the surviving pictures giving us a glimpse of what was lost. They got better and better over the years but for the most part if your not a hard core fan your not going to want to sit threw them.
Now the odd episode is great Web of Fear 3 as stated above is an example but for me animations have taken over. As stated above it can be watched as a cartoon. No there not perfect by any means but its a higher level or recreation.
I have saved all my RECONS be it Loose Cannon or JVC to DVD. I wont throw them out as I am a completest but I just don't see the general population paying to watch a recon of six full episodes of any missing story. I really appreciate all the hard work done buy the Recon teams over the years as they brought new life to lost episodes and I am glad they exist.

I have saved all my RECONS be it Loose Cannon or JVC to DVD. Gotta complete that DVD collection somehow. I love the ability to just take any story off the shelf and watch it like it actually exists and has an official release. Throw the Loose Cannon special features on as well and make a menu in Gimp, and it almost feels like one, too. .
