Or how about if we all chip in to employ an army of town criers ... Oyez, Oyez, Oyez! ... Dost thou have any missing episodes ...

Of course for the relatives of those who die with prints forming a house clearance firm that checked for 16mm films as they cleared the house could help. Or even just contacting house clearance firms and asking them to look out for such things.

I still insist it's a daft idea. On the sheer numbers factor in this country, is there is a Who fan living on every street? I doubt that (and definitely not in Singapore). But what would happen if everyone door knocked their street in the name of MEs? One episode recovered from that? Probably not. But let's say it did yield one film can; would it be worth all that door knocking? I think so. ...and this explains my continued confusion. Another idea related to door knocking is that there are always leaflets being put through peoples doors asking for any unwanted bric-a-brac. This shows how the venture is possible on a wide scale, if these scrap merchants can pull it off. Leaflets could be distributed asking for any unwanted old films - cine films, reels of film and such. Never know what might turn up in response. Certainly moving to a more sensible suggestion, but... scrap is plentiful, scrap is being created every day. What we're looking for isn't. Better than pestering people at their front doors in any case. (Yes, that's how many people will see it) What I am getting at is that the time to benefit ratio is obscenely rubbish. You are better spent looking for material though other means. As history has shown us, being more strategic and targeted about it will likely get you further.

I live in an area with a little under 100,000 residents and about 60,000 properties - that's a lotta doors !

According to the Office for National Statistics there are approximately:
18.9m families living in the UK. (A family is a married, civil partnered or cohabiting couple with or without children, or a lone parent, with at least one child, who live at the same address. Children may be dependent or non-dependent.) 27.1m households in the UK. (A household is one person living alone (7.7m), or a group of people (not necessarily related) living at the same address who share cooking facilities and share a living room, sitting room or dining area. A household can consist of more than one family, or no families in the case of a group of unrelated people.)
So who do you target? There's going to be a lot of crossover. If you're talking to a single family they might know someone in their extended family who collects film cans. Or they may know a friend of a friend who is a collector. If you target every household you might miss out on someone unrelated sharing the house who secretly collects films that they store in a lock-up, hide under the bed, or put in the attic.
Perhaps we should consider the ages of the population? Out of the 65m residents, 12m are under 16, 41m are 16-64, and 12m are 65 or over.
I would assume the 12m people 65+ are the most likely to have a film collection on 16mm, but then there is probably a good percentage of 16-64 year-old's who have acquired or built up a collection of material from TV stations on various formats...

Save time and put a letter in a local paper asking for old tv home recordings It would obviously make sense to put a letter in a (free) local newspaper, while there still are such things (rather than knocking on doors, or - worse - printing millions of leaflets to put through people's letterboxes).

Or we could ask the BBC who 'lost' them in the first place to do a general article on a prime time show like ,The One Show' in the evenings (about 6 million viewers) and a piece on Flog it/Cash in the attic/Flog your attic! (daytime 1 million, but repeated ad nauseum). If it was about all old cine and unwanted or unviewed stock, something may come to light. A weblink to a list of missing TV shows would be a good starting point and how to find out if you have something of importance, rather than monetary worth, or even simply to find out what you have got. A cine film labelled 'Peter and Jane Christmas 65' could include 30 seconds of Feast of Steven in the background as they unwrap toy Daleks?

I admire the ingenuity, but would point out that this episode was broadcast at 6:35pm, which might be a little after the present-unwrapping phase of Christmas Day: 'The Feast of Steven' at BBC Genome

It was Jane trundling round in her pvc Dalek costume that showed the Keystone Cops in the background, cut short by Peter hitting Grandad in the shins with his Cherilea Dalek causing him to stop filming. Dad was grumpy as the chaos had caused him to miss the TV action - oh well he can always watch the repeat ... Or not!

I thought this would be a zinger of an idea of 'spreading the word': www.airships.com/history.phpOne could fly one of these around London, with an appeal for lost TV written on the side, and a number to call the BBC. Goodyear has always used such craft to promote their tyre company.

We could all join hands singing songs about the missing episodes for days on end. If 100's of us join to sing, we would be all over the news! Think of the reach! If 100's of us did it naked, the world would take notice.
C'mon, guys! Let's push for those episodes! Without sacrifice, the pay off won't happen.
Unfortunately, I can't join for anyone who is up for this though, as I'm pretty busy tending to my cute figurines. They need to be dusted and cared for. But I'll be cheering you all in spirit! :DDD

Do we have any remote viewers on here? They could remote view the location of all material..... or, better yet, teach us how to remote view the ME's contents! The would eliminate the need to even recover them.
