Rumours are abound that Mike Smith episodes of TOTP are not going to be shown, the first to be missed will be 4/11/82.

Why might they not be shown? Surely just being dead isn't a good enough reason.

Some objections from his estate maybe?
I was worried that John Peel's editions would be skipped over, but that have been shown just fine.

His estate cannot have a veto over his BBC appearances surely?

Has it been confirmed they're not showing the Mike Smith episodes, or has the decision to not show the 4/11/82 episode caused people to jump to conclusions when there could be another explanation?

Maybe Paul Whitehouse could reprise his role as Mike Smash and do the links in between each performance? We would hardly notice the difference, surely?

Maybe it's a technical issue like a damaged / incomplete tape?

It's possibly being dropped for scheduling reasons. With the amount of 1982 editions (10) still to be shown this year, one would have to be shown outside of the Thursday/Friday slot.

When did Janice Long first present TOTP? I'm sure there was a clip of her on the Story of 1982.

Right, I was wondering who was the first women to present TOTP, IIRC there were some female co-presenters in 1960s.
